Jacques Renault c’est un trublion. Élevé au post punk à Washington DC, il part vivre à Chicago en 1997 et tombe amoureux de la dance music. Prenant rapidement ses marques il intègre le label Gramophone Records et lance sa première résidence au Smart Bar. Quelques années plus tard, il poursuit sa route jusqu'à New York et trouve son bonheur dans la house et la disco. Il devient alors une figure emblématique de NY avec des résidences aux York Happy Endings, APT, Tribeca Grand, 205 Club et tourne dans le monde entier.

La suite vous la connaissez bien : il signe sur DFA RECORDS, I’m A Cliché, Italians Do It Better, Future Classic, Rekids…et crée son label On the Prowl avec Marcos Cabral avec qui il produit sous le nom Runaway puis, c'est le début de l'aventure LET'S PLAY HOUSE avec Nik Mercer. Consistant tout d’abord en des soirées itinérantes, d’un entrepôt à Brooklyn aux Salons d’hôtel à Manhattan Jacques et Nik ne manquent pas d’imagination. Face aux succès de ces soirées, ils décident de lancer le label que l’on connait aujourd’hui. Ses sets sont toujours à l'image de son aura : riches, navigants entre des classiques disco, du groove house et même une pointe de techno puissante et lancinante.

Après 6 ans d’absence, il est enfin de retour à Montréal ce vendredi au Bleury Bar À Vinyle. En attendant, il nous a fait l'immense plaisir d'être l'invité de notre série MIXED BY.

Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone
of Nu Groove Records. This New York label started in 1987 and took
inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This
compilation compiles the absolute best of the Burrell's output and in
doing so is giving us a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of
New York house music.

A warm welcome to our Trushmixer of the week: Phillip Lauer! From his headquarters at Pyramide studios in the heart of Frankfurt, he's been firing out dancefloor rockets for over a decade!! Many people will know him as a member of Arto Mwambe, who have created waves with their releases on labels like Live At Robert Johnson and Brontosaurus, and are widely known for giving one of the best live performances around! If you haven't heard their Live at Robert Johnson CD, make sure to do so – you need this in your life!!!

What you also need to hear, is Lauer's forthcoming album on Running Back, and of course: Lauer's Trushmix!!!! An hour long, this is a disco-house infusion that is sure to get your blood pumping!!!

Trushmix 23: Phillip Lauer

We are very happy to introduce a new trushmixer: Prins Thomas! Norwegian cosmic disco renegade, DJ extraordinaire and all around nice guy. 

His Trushmix is an older mix recorded at Club Module in Tokyo, all the way back in 2006. Starting off in an easy going manner, it slowly starts moving into the worlds of cosmic sounds, disco, balearic and krautrock, peaking with some house sounds towards the end. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

A big welcome to another new Trushmixer: Massimiliano Pagliara! 

Originally from Lecce in Italy, Pagliara now lives in Berlin, where he DJs and produces his special blend of house/disco on old analogue machines.

After debuting on Daniel Wang's Balihu in 2008, he has released on acclaimed labels such as Rush Hour, Meakusma and Needwant.
Last year he released his debut album, the absolutely brilliant "Focus For Infinity" on Live At Robert Johnson. If you haven't already bought it, go stand in the corner.

TRUSHMIX 34 isn't for the dancefloor – this is a mainly ambient mix, showing Pagliara's love for analogue synths, quirky sounds and a dark cosmic mood. One could say this is the perfectly compiled dreamy soundtrack for this year's fall.

We are RISE, a Berlin based collective and label with cosmopolitan roots. Our members are Hyenah, Walter Griot, GHEDI, Jane Ryse and Ukai  Collectively our members are from Nigeria, Angola, Congo, Germany, Senegal and Ethiopia. We are heavily inspired by African House music, and equality, diversity and social justice is at the core of our identity.

We strive to create spaces where people can feel safe to express themselves, no matter their ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or social status. 

We aim to distill and deliver some of the core tenets of African music, namely dance and emotion, to provide some color and warmth in Berlin’s harsh grayscale palette. 

Here at RISE we aim to take HOUSE and TECHNO off the beaten path.
