Following from their debut double single 'Apophenia/Shaped Curve', RITA BASS has curated a remix EP featuring some of their favourite local and international producers including @ciel_dj, @koreatownacid, @in2stellar, @ahju_ahju_ahju & @hyphira. 

What eventuated is a hot & spicy remix EP fit for the club as well as the liminal spaces in-between the dance-floor and deep introspection, all soaked in the flavours of avant-garde experimentation.

Very excited to announce my remix EP with the first single by emerging Eora Nation (Sydney) based producer/DJ @ahju_ahju_ahju!

In "Apophenia (AHJU remix)" AHJU plays with classic 90's UK breakbeat, with piercing high-synth stabs reminiscent of Sydney's vivacious hardstyle underground rave and party scene pre-lockdown. She also hones in on the distorted vocal chops of the o.g. track, moulding them into a high energy dance number ready for dance floors across Aus this coming Summer.

Apophenia (AHJU Remix)

Every evening she went to visit the muggy, rocky caverns. Each step was meticulously placed, the safe path fully mapped out in her head at this point. But still — one wrong move and she could easily be swept into the seemingly bottomless void below. Tonight the roundtrip journey would take hours, but she carried on, one mindful step at a time. The echoes of her pattering feet became quieter. The light became dimmer as shadows began to swirl. The thick, humid air turned frail and bitter. Just when a shred of fear began to tickle her neck, a familiar warmth reached out and offered itself as a guide through the dark. Her feet lifted off the ground as she was beckoned into the dwelling of her beloved.

Hot on the heels of RITA BASS’s debut double single via 56K Records, the Naarm (Melbourne) based artist has enlisted the meticulous talents of Toronto producer Ciel to remix 'Shaped Curve', taken off the B-side of the release. Ciel, who has previously released on Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs and co-runs her own Parallel Minds imprint, delivers a nostalgic dub that transforms the original from pop to UKG-laced IDM. Keeping it drenched in emotion, like RITA's OG version, this stripped-back take makes for a perfect sunrise closer.

@hyphira's remix of "Apophenia" takes the cake as the most wild, vivacious and boundary-pushing of the remixes on the EP. The almost 10-minute track starts focussed in on BASS' bedroom-recorded stream in "Apophenia" before evolving into a fusion of hard dance, hyper-pop and avant-garde electronica. 

Also the co-producer of the original double single, the Naarm based-producer, composer, audio engineer, DJ and so much more has an incredible ability to push the limits of dance music, constantly surprising us in this remix with tempo, tonal and stylistic shifts.

Apophenia (Hyphira Remix)

Korea Town Acid's (@koreatownacid) 'daydream dub' of "Shaped Curve" is equal parts experimental as mind-melting, using the backing vocal melodies and harmonies as a basis for an industrial and textural track. As a producer and DJ the avant-garde artist blends together future glitch, IDM, UK bass and K-pop in a bid to her Asian diaspora, reflected in her recent full-length album Metamorphosis released via Canadian label Urbnet.

"i got inspired by the ethereal layers of vocals and chorus so I evolved the track having all the vocal stems And make a new beat on top to mingle with moody textures. I have used digitakt sampler/drummachine to execute my vision and made glitchy abstract feeling beat that gives a late night after hour vibes".

Shaped Curve (Korea Town Acid Daydream Dub)

In @in2stellar's remix of "Shaped Curve" they hone in on the vocal hooks of the original left-field pop meets emotional drum and bass track, turning them into trance hooks underpinned by a left-field techno and electro drum groove. The outcome is an exciting and full of life track that feels perfect for daytime and basking in the sun this coming Summer.
