Boston’s own Rite Hook has returned with “The Road,” an equally gritty and catchy new single from the hard-nosed rapper destined to leave heads spinning with his whirlwind bars. At least, that’s what’ll happen once you hear the second verse on this track, which is a non-album leak off his upcoming next album, ‘Modify.’ 

Hook’s fervent rhymes are the perfect match for the tough, neck-breaking instrumental supplied by Sicknature of acclaimed production team the Snowgoons. As each teeth-gritting line hits your speaker, it’s complemented by hard-hitting percussion and a sing-song chorus that’s become something of a trademark for the Beantown resident. It’s rare that an emcee can balance writing rhymes and vocals like Hook, and he makes it sound easy on “The Road.”

“The Road” is available now for streaming. Consider it a holdover as we wait for the proper first single off Modify, which drops in early 2016 on Leedz Edutainment, and serves as the follow-up to 2013’s ‘From The Wrong.’

“Long Way to Go” is the powerful new single from Boston’s own Blak Madeen, who are gearing up to release their new album, 'Supreme Aftermath.'

Since debuting in 2008, the duo of Al-J and Yusuf Abdul-Mateen have used their positivity and passion to craft some of the more poignant Hip-Hop to come out of the New England area. And that’s especially apparent on “Long Way to Go,” a cutting song that features a sharp guest verse from living rap legend, Gift of Gab (of Blackalicious). He and Blak Madeen recognize that with each step we take forward as a society to get better, we’re still not there just yet.

"As many of you may know, myself and my good friend Janos Fulop, aka The Arcitype, are set to release our debut full-length album ‘Death Doesn’t Want You’ on Jan. 22nd. Yesterday we were dealt a potentially crippling blow to our promotional campaign.

Facebook has deemed our cover art to have “excessive amounts of skin or suggestive content” and is severely limiting the reach of posts containing the image. That means when someone shares a link to purchase our album or stream a song, that post – while still being allowed on Facebook – will most likely not be seen in anyone’s timeline.

The unfortunate truth is that for us DIY indie rap types – relatively unknown, without big label support or large PR budgets – social media is essential to getting our music out and cultivating a fan base. Not being able to utilize it is pretty disastrous for an artist on our level.

The irony of all this is that the image in question is our attempt to have a social media friendly version of our album cover! That’s right, the actual cover – that will only be available on vinyl and tape – has full-blown nudity! The image is by no means obscene, but we were forced to comply with iTunes' strict no nudity policy. Since the censored version was accepted by iTunes, we thought we were in the clear.

Apparently not.

At this point we have two options: Take our entire album down from iTunes and re-upload it with new artwork – causing us to lose all our preorders and most likely miss our release date – or turn this into something positive and shed light on a few extremely important issues.

I do not mind playing by a privately owned platform’s rules. That is exactly what we did with iTunes. My problem is the hypocrisy of labeling a picture showing some cleavage as obscene on a website that routinely gives a voice to hateful bigots, sexists, and people posting violent or sexual imagery that has zero artistic merit. That is true obscenity. Arc and I would never associate ourselves with anything of that nature.

Temporarily, we have replaced the cover on the soundcloud link with a fully censored image to highlight the absurdity of this whole situation. If you want to help fight censorship, if you want to aid in the struggle of independent artistry, if you want to let the world know that you are not threatened by female sexuality - I implore you to share this post and our unapologetically filthy rap song.

PENGUIN PRISON RELEASES “SHOW ME THE WAY” (TAYLOR WISE REMIX)

New York-based producer/songwriter Penguin Prison (aka Chris Glover) has released the “Show Me The Way” Taylor Wise Remix.  “Show Me the Way” is the latest single co-written with DJ/producer RAC from his album Lost In New York 
The remix is taken from the Show Me the Way Remix EP to be released February 5 on Downtown Records.

New York newcomer Taylor Wise has been making quite the name for himself with his past four releases all taking the #1 spot on Hypem. He really has taken ‘feel good’ music to a whole new level with his indie-pop melodic sound. For his latest release, Taylor has kept "Show Me The Way's" original components the listeners love, but flipped them with his signature style to give the track a new vibe. 

"I had “Show Me The Way” on repeat when it first came out, so I jumped at the chance to remix the record. From the catchy vocals to bouncy guitar riffs, it's hard not to dance to. Rite Hook is a Massachusetts based alternative artist who blends dense, lyrical raps with bluesy, sung rock choruses to capture the struggles of those on society’s fringes.

Rite Hook, who roamed Massachusetts nomad-style before settling in Boston at 18, is currently set to release his fourth album, Modify.
Rite Hook spent a decade bouncing from band to band and genre to genre, sharpening his writing, singing, and rapping. He soon landed work crafting hooks for Boston rap legend Slaine, who also took him on tour. Rite Hook’s biggest hit, “It Ain’t Easy”, from his third album From the Wrong, saw the rocker go bar for bar with Slaine and Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks).
Rite Hook is more focused than ever. After an overdose almost claimed his life in 2012, he returned to music with a newfound drive, producing 2013’s polished From the Wrong. Never an easy act to pin down, his music is set to evolve, driven by dense lyrics, hard flows, a rock attitude and a bluesman’s soul.
With more artistic changes to come, Modify is a fitting title for his fourth album, one which sees the artist inviting others to share his struggles, triumphs, and realizations.
