<p>The sound we have come to expect from Akasha FX is always evolving and in &#8220;Tri&#8221; it&#8217;s the eerie melody that serves as the hook -if you will- to this claustrophobic ride. Liquid sub bass and a rocksteady rhythm section allow subtle, yet tense, chords to mutate into something grander as the affair unfolds and engulfs everything around it with its bleak presence.<br />
 &#8220;Yoof&#8221; picks things up with persistent tones and shuffling percussion, while mangled vocal effects add a dominant touch. As the tension builds, a persistent synth stab makes its appearance and leads us into the shadowy tunnel.</p>

A unique project gathering nineteen tracks from eighteen prolific producers including

Claude VonStroke, Brodinski, Cassius and Art Department centred around one inimitable singer; JAW. ‘Midtown’ is the ambitious sound of an artist reflecting on his vision of the world, through collaborations with friends from every corner of the planet.
You may know JAW by name, but most will know him by voice. As the frontman of French house wildcards dOP and their indiepop sideproject, Les Fils du Calvaire, JAW has blossomed into one of the most distinctive performers in a scene where few dare to cross the barrier of the DJ booth. From bedroom setups to street recordings to highend studios, spanning melancholic folk, electro pop and apocalyptic R&B, ‘Midtown’ is the culmination of years JAW has spent connecting with likeminded artists, challenging himself to use his unmistakable voice in different ways. Placing the emphasis on having fun, whether the music be dark and obtuse, or upbeat and flamboyant, the result is nineteen different recording spaces with nineteen different textures, ensuring that no two moments on ‘Midtown’ feel the same.

o As the vocalist for madcap house wayfarers dOP, Jonathan Illel has seduced the hearts and minds of dancefloor dwellers, holding them captive with his voice as he douses them in vodka. He has also guested on notorious tracks such as Claude VonStroke ‘Le Fantôme’ and on his relentless mission to share his voice, he seizes any chance he can to get into a session with anyone who shares his passion.

o+ This insatiable appetite led to him working with a host of different producers on ‘Midtown’ including The/Das, Claude VonStroke, Piers Faccini, Kevork Keshishian, Cassius, Claptone, Seuil, Para One, Mim Youthman & Marger, Chaim, Steve Smyth, Art Department, Saschienne, Rose Ryot, Brodinski and more.

o+o From selling popcorn at Euro Disney to manning a sex shop, grafting in a kitchen to fronting a hotel reception, JAW has served his time in unforgiving jobs and unsociable hours. So when a fearsome touring schedule first emerged in 2007, JAW relished the opportunity to hone his skills and pushed naturally to work hard.

o+o+ With ‘Midtown’ he intends to make the perfect introductory statement, identifying himself in every shade of music and to give listeners the full picture. Forcing producers to go outside their comfort zone to meet his musical vision, whilst adopting a unique singing style for each track, JAW has sought to craft the ultimate collection of music to represent who he is. Sometimes, there is a certain attention for a new artist and you can actually feel that this one is about to go through the roof.This is exactly the feeling we have with Few Nolder right now. With releases and tracks on Boso, Suol, Cloud Vision and not to forget his little summer hit „IF“ on Connaisseur in late August, the Vilnius resident has caught quite some attention over the last months. Now, he completes this successful and busy year with his frst full EP on Connaisseur called „Moli“, featuring three new lovely tracks.

One of Few Nolder’s talents is to compose state-of-the-art music which also has a timeless approach. The a-side „Twin“ is one of those tracks. Sounds and melodies which stick in your mind straight away and an on point build-up make „Twin“ one of those universal tunes which can be played in every moment.

„Sonar“ on b1 is a bit more reduced and raw. Played at the right moment it is a heavy hitter, with its memorable break and the big synth theme.

On b2 you will fnd the title track and maybe also the hidden hit of the release. The bitter- sweet „Moli" is a delicate extravaganza with big melodies and emotions.

Eli & Fur, aka Eli Noble and Jennifer Skillman, have been making a name for themselves on the London DJ circuit of late, and putting out a string of fresh and exciting singles, including “Seeing Is Believing”, their excellent collaboration with Shadow Child. “Feel The Fire” is a tougher, harder-edged take on their typically melodic sound, and works wonders with their ethereal vocals. 

A memorable moment from Anjunadeep 06, the energetic original mix has been a mainstay in James Grant and Jody Wisternoff’s DJ sets this year. Fellow rising stars Journeyman take on remix duties, stripping down the peak-time power of the original for a more mellow rolling style, with a buoyant groove carrying the track through flowing chord stabs and the distinctive vocal hook.

Irish techno, electro and electronica producer Chymera makes his debut here on Canadian
label My Favourite Robot Records with this superb 4 track EP.

Before now the talented craftsman has released on labels like Ovum, Kompakt and
Connaisseur and has been active for a decade. His sound is filmic and patient, features
plenty of great synth work and therefore fits in perfectly with the MFR sound.

Up first is 'Other Worlds', a serene cut with proud chords and percolating drums down
below. Slivery and reflective, shiny and golden, it's a lush way to start. 'Vertigo' is then a
more direct cut with pixelated chord stabs, arpeggiated bass and a slick sense of groove
that carries us well into the future.

On the flip, 'Inner Worlds' pairs things back to a more insular deep house groove. Sombre
chords sway back and forth as hiccuping snares roll over rubbery drums. There is mystery
and intrigue in the little pads that float about and the whole thing has a soothing effect on
mind, body and soul. Lastly, 'Erku' is the deepest of the lot, where bubbling drums and
synths unravel in an eerie and spacious sound world. Stuttering drums eventually arrive to
kick start things and the whole thing is soft focus and perfectly cosmic.

Once more here MFR have unearthed an artful producer who can do so much more than
just lay down a track - instead he injects a true sense of musicality into his work as
displayed on this standout EP.

After a series of remixes and single track releases, Ritter Butzke Studio is back with a proper 4- Track EP by our latest family member Bela Brandes! Included in the package are three originals full of melodic summer goodness and an amazing groovy remix courtesy of Florian Rietze!

“Leon Diva“ is the title track of the EP and its a perfect fit for this catchy summer anthem. Its warm chord theme conveys a pleasant feeling from the first note and immediately puts a broad smile on the face of the listener. Up next is “Beirut Beige“, a track in which Bela shows his talent for creating special moods that take you on a relentless musical journey. Close your eyes and let yourself levitate to the beach. The third original “Cape Koons“ tops Bela's summer trilogy off. Starting as more of a dubby affair, it quickly progresses into a dancefloor bomb as the bassline melody sets in. Florian Rietze has used this tracks amazing elements to create a remix which captures the dubby athmosphere while adding unqiue grooves and synth work that display his class in producing melodic but danceable music.

All in all we are very proud of this outstanding body of work from our new label artist Bela Brandes and we hope you too will feel the special energy this EP delivers.
