Eigentlich ist es gar nicht mehr erstaunlich, wenn man wieder einmal zu hören bekommt, dass für einen Künstler der Schritt aus der Heimat in unsere Bundes- und Partyhauptstadt ein ganz, wenn nicht sogar der entscheidende war. Erstaunlich ist nur immer wieder, von wo aus überall dieser Schritt gemacht wird. Ob aus dem hohen Norden auf Rügen wie Aparde, der mitteldeutschen Finanzmetropole Frankfurt wie Chris Schwarzwalder oder der europäischen Nachbarschaft wie applescal aus Amsterdam: Berlin ist ein Schmelztiegel für elektronische Musik mit mannigfaltigen Einflüssen und diese erfreuliche Tatsache spiegelt sich auch auf höchst kreative und abwechslungsreiche Art in unserem Podcast wieder.

Der Künstler unserer aktuellen Ausgabe musste sicherlich den bisher weitesten Weg aller Vertreter unseres Podcasts nach Berlin antreten, denn er kommt aus Südfrankreich, aus Toulouse, um genau zu sein. Sein musikalisches Zuhause hat er seinen eignen Worten zu folge in der Welt des Techno gefunden, aber stets mit dem Hang zum Progressiven und auch Psychodelischen. Um so mehr überrascht er aber auch immer wieder sein Publikum, wenn er während seines Sets auch einfach mal komplett zum Deep House abdriftet.

Und sein Publikum ist groß und weit verbreitet, denn er weist mittlerweile ein beachtliches Portfolio an Clubs und Festivals auf. In Berlin hat er so ziemlich jeden namhaften Club bespielt, von der Underground-Party bis zu den angesagten Locations und ohne alle einzeln aufzählen zu wollen ist damit wirklich buchstäblich fast jeder gemeint. Aber auch bundesweit kennt man ihn schon in den meisten Großstädten. Auf der Fusion stand er mehrfach hinter den Tellern. In seiner Heimat Frankreich hat er ebenso mehrfach aufgelegt wie auch in Italien oder Israel. Man muss sich wundern, wie er da noch Zeit zum Produzieren findet. Im vergangenen Jahr wurden diverse Remixe von ihm auf verschiedenen Labels released.

Wir wurden nun von seinem Set absolut überrascht, und zwar in der allerangenehmsten Art und Weise. http://soundcloud.com/nicorus entführt uns auf eine Reise, die im sehr Chilligen, fast Downtempo-artigem beginnt und Track für Track immer etwas schneller wird – ohne jedoch die Stimmung kippen zu lassen. NeoTrance und Deep House runden diese wirklich träumerische Podcast-Ausgabe ab.

This time he takes on the Slumber Session and packs in a tonne of unreleased exclusive material to deliver this beautiful, ethereal soundtrack to help you journey through your dreams. Take time, kick back, zone out and drift off. This one is special.

"This Slumber Session mix gave me a great opportunity to make a playlist of something I would want to listen to when unwinding, or to just fall asleep to. I wanted it to be able to exist in the background, without focus, whilst at the same time having elements of detail and beauty scattered amongst the layers of sound unravelling as the mix progresses.

In some ways you can think of it as a soundtrack to a dream. There are moments of calm flowing smoothly into more abstract sections. Textures build to go from sparse emotive landscapes to darker, brooding moments of tension. I wanted it to be dynamic, taking in a variety of styles and influences, whilst giving the listener a coherent experience and painting some interesting images in their minds.

It also gave me the chance to put in a lot of unreleased tracks of mine. I make a wide variety of styles outside of my normal output, so it was great to have an outlet for some of that material. There are also a lot of field recordings I've made over the last few years throughout the mix, including some from my travels. The opening section of music features the sounds of walks in Sydney and San Francisco, which at the time was just some subconscious grabbing of sound recordings without any kind of artistic purpose - it just sounded cool at the time. It seemed fitting when I realised where the sounds were from, as the mix would have been the perfect playlist for a lot of my sleep deprived travels.

I ended up getting so involved putting together this mix that there's a lot of live tweaks of outboard reverb and delay units layered on certain tracks to try and get the sense of space I wanted to achieve and give the mix some breathing space. I find that ambient music can be incredibly beautiful and achieve the range of emotions other music can. I hope that you enjoy the musical selection and can immerse yourself in it, even with the emphasis away from the hooks and rhythms of traditional electronic dance music."

this is the set liveset I played on the 4d system in amsterdam during my residency in April 2014. 
Equipment used: MFB Tanzbär, Clavia Nordrack2, TeenageEngineering OP-1, Arturia Microbrute and AbletonLive as master clock, sampler and midi sequencer. 

Everything on the 4D sound was tweaked by hand in real-time, as well as the whole arrangement. I preprogrammed some chords and grooves on my machines though. 

The 4D System is an advanced spatial sound system and the set is binaural (also called dummy head) recorded - in order to get an idea of how it sounded you need to use your headphones.

Mit der Ausgabe 45 unserer Podcast-Reihe konnten wir den Hamburger Christoph Ahrens alias Pazul gewinnen, der bereits weit über die Stadt- und Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannt sein dürfte und dieses Jahr besonders mit seinen Sets in der Nochtwache oder bei den Bachstelzen auf dem Fusion Festival überzeugte. 

Als langjähriger Produzent hat Christoph mit einigen facettenreichen Produktionen, vor allem auf dem Label URSL, sowie mit diversen Remixen, wie aktuell für Krink "A Passenger“, viel Anerkennung bei seinen Fans und Kollegen gleichermaßen gewinnen können. 

Das schließt unsere Redaktion im Konsens mit ein, denn wir mögen die deepen, warmen Vibes, die er verbreitet und so war die "New Days EP" eine unserer Lieblingsscheiben im Sommer letzten Jahres. Pazuls Tracks waren deshalb auch u.a. in unserem Geburtstags-Special Podcast vertreten, umso mehr freuen wir uns jetzt, dass er uns nun mit einem exklusiven sowie sommerlich warmen Podcast zum Ausklang der Festivalsaison 2014 beehrt.

Don Brazo - Ritter Butzke Studio Podcast #12

The collaboration between Alex Blackstock and Dan Sherman was born out of salty, sultry Playa dust. Both resident DJs in San Francisco, and best friends to boot, it wasn't until something happened over that silt-covered mixer in the burning desert that their styles coalesced into unforgettable sunrise sessions, and delicate afternoons on the Esplanade. 

Mixed live on 1200s after a few intense late nights of brainstorming and storyboarding, this set is the debut release of Alex and Dan's collaborative identity. Playing as the symbiotic duo Solomon & Sadao, we want to share some of that dusty magic with the Desert Hearts community. If you enjoy what you hear, give us a LIKE to help us win an opportunity to do what we love and play out some positive vibes at this fall's festival.

Alex and Dan are co-founders of Concept (https://www.facebook.com/ConceptSF), an experiment in musical communication, and Sui Generis, an intimate underground event series in San Francisco that brings electronic music artists who've never been to San Francisco, to San Francisco (first Lake People, then Canson, next, on Halloween, DoubtingThomas).
