Singer, Songwriter and pianist Allen Toussaint is not only a New Orleans institution, but he's had his hands in many of the most popular tunes in the American songbook.

As host Larry Groce says in his introduction, "If there's any song that's really cool and you don't know who wrote it, chances are, it was Allen Toussaint." He performs many of his best-known numbers during this week's broadcast, including the funk classic "Yes We Can Can," which became the Pointer Sisters' first hit single.

Co-produced by Grammy nominee Ivis Flies and Grammy winner Ivan Benavides, Rio Mira is a marimba supergroup with Afro-Pacific binational heritage consisting of some of the most in-demand and respected musicians from Colombia and Ecuador. Their music is the sonic rejoining of the region known as El Pacífico Sur, one connected by history, ecology and culture and divided by the national borders of Ecuador and Colombia.

The people throughout this area have similar music, food, speech, fashion, and background, and it is no coincidence that the band takes its name from the Mira River that flows across these borders, connecting rather than dividing people and cultures. This area is home to a great many people of African descent and the rhythms of Africa have become entwined with the lilt and grooves of Colombia and Ecuador. Marimba music has become firmly established, a sound so sacred it was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015.

Marimba Del Pacifico is a beguiling showcase of this protected sound, a celebration of a unique cultural heritage found nowhere else on the planet, by a band of young musicians keeping this strong tradition alive.

Los Destellos is a Peruvian musical group of cumbia and instrumental rock in its beginnings, formed in the Lima district of Rimac, Peru in the year 1966 through the years have passed more than 90 musicians for that reason it is called "La Universidad de la Peruvian Cumbia ". It is considered the First Tropical Group of Peru.
These are songs that Los Destellos made throughout their career and are on the discs they recorded, in which they feel the psychedelic influence of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s. A new cd was release with remastered version in 2016. available at

Going back all the way to 1998!This Bong Load Records release became quietly historic.Tom Rothrock's collaboration with underground blues legend, RL Burnside was a forward envisioning of the blues and dance that would begin to reverberate permanent change in american roots music.This ep set RL and Tom on the beginning of a rapid, life changing, path of exclusive gigs to early exposure on the Sopranos TV series.Not to be missed by the then underground artist, Moby, who was beginning to write his 1999 album, "Play".Tom's work can also be heard on the mixes of Moby's "Run-On", "Southside" (feat.
