With so many albums little more than a collection of songs rushed out as soon as there is enough material to fill the space, it is a rare pleasure to find a record as lovingly crafted as Blake McKibben's debut. 

This young, good-looking man from Portland, Oregon has produced a record that has taken all of two years' hard work to perfect. 

'Haze' is an album that cannot be defined by any single style, but which still has a thread running through each and every track. As befits a record made entirely by one individual, every song is intensely personal, telling the stories of a man's life; both the highs and the lows. 

Equally adept at turning his hand to rock, pop, folk or even hip-hop, McKibben uses every weapon in his musical armoury. But each style is just another reflection of his soul, and evidence of an enormous talent. 

'Haze' is by turns catchy, heart-felt, funny and sad. McKibben covers every emotion of his young life, from the heartbreak of 'The Breakup Song' to the feel good jauntiness of 'You Lift Me Up', via the daily drudgery of working life, described perfectly in 'Another Day Another Dollar'. 

But the standout tracks are the rawest, most soulful and most beautiful. The title track and 'I Wish I Could Thank You' both deal with the tragedy of losing a loved one. But out of that tragedy has come music that belies its creator's youth. 
Despite only being 26-years-old, McKibben has been involved in music for nearly two decades. He began by picking up the saxophone in front of his whole school at the age of 10 and was soon turning his hand to piano, drums, bass and anything he could lay his hands on. 

He writes, records, performs and produces all of his music. And such total control has produced something that is genuinely unique. His influences include some of the most maverick artists of the last 40 years, including The Velvet Underground, Nine Inch Nails and Morphine. But 'Haze' is an album that is truly his own. 
Each song on the record offers something different, but it is as a whole that this album comes in to its own. 
If it's a sign of things to come, Blake McKibben has a very very long future.

Aprendiendo a tocar en su infancia guitarra, tambores  y  flautas, el siguiente paso  fueron teclados y sintetizadores antes de  entrar de lleno a  la programación de música virtual, inicialmente  explorando ritmos de trance psicodelico, pero  con el paso de los años explorando ritmos como deep, house y techno, después de haber compartido el cartel con artistas top en  los géneros de house, techno y psytrance,  su proyecto renovado esta de regreso con una combinación de techno con ritmos psicodélicos lentos pero con la inclusión de  instrumentos étnicos con un  toque de tribalismo ritual, define su estilo que ha forjado con  los años de experiencia, pero también con los géneros explorados, dando como resultado un estilo no común, que llena algo mas que el oído y el cuerpo, bajos esponjosos, suaves, armoniosos, con mucho groove, no lo dejaras de disfrutar.

Karl’s earliest memories of dance music take him right back to the early 80’s where his initial love for soul, funk, disco and rare groove first developed his appetite for Djing. With the arrival of hip hop and electro-funk during the mid 80’s, Karl developed his sound and began gigging at local west London parties and roller disco's whilst sharing his musical finding through his increasingly popular mix tapes.

This continued throughout the late 80 and early 90’s and with the explosion of the dance music scene, Karl was finally old enough to bring his sound to club land. Under the DJ Speedy Moniker, he embraced the early House and Drum & Bass scene performing at legendary nights and venues such as The Africa Centre, The Brain, Fantasy (Astoria) Fusion, AWOL, Desire 2000AD, Adrenalin Village whilst hosting regular shows on the London pirates.

As the 90’s drew to a close, Karl was continually captivated by New York house and the disco influenced sounds of the likes of Quentin Harris, Louie Vega, Kenny Carpenter, Joe Clausell, Greg Wilson, Danny Krivit, and Kerri Chandler. This sound took him back to his early influences and before long he was busy developing his love for the deep US House and Nu Disco.

Continuing to push boundaries and developing his unique DJ style, it wasn’t long before he was busy co-promoting his own nights across West London with regular guest appearances at Notting Hill Arts Club, Subterrania, Cherry Jam, Cobden, and the world famous Notting Hill Carnival.

Over the past 10 years Karl has continued to develop his sound, fusing a mix of deep house, retro disco, electro-funk & afro Latin and spent 4 years as a Resident at the legendary  AKA London (THE END)  for ‘The Players’ with regular guest slot and appearances at The Lodge, Mulletover, The End, East Village, Ministry of Sound, GO!Zilla, Body Talk, Cargo, Neighbourhood & Pacha (Azuli) to name but a few.

With his diverse musical sound and ability to work the crowd, Karl has developed a unique DJ style fusing his Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rare Groove and Disco roots with more contemporary dance music genres that continues to push the boundaries and never fails to entertain.
