Denise has worked for the radio and print industries for over a decade. Currently, she is publisher and editor of “Ingospelthisweek.com and hosts the ‘In Gospel This Week” show and “In Gospel This Week News,” both of which currently air on U.S and U.K.-based Internet and terrestrial radio.

She began her career in communications at 103.9 WDKX Radio (Rochester, NY). She was an on-air personality with no background or education in broadcasting, yet it was her “personality” that compelled the program director to give her the mic. A six month internship culminated into her own Sunday afternoon show, “Miss Denise & The Jam Squad,” which broadcast “live… from the street!” This assignment would make her the “community face” for the station.

As a freelance writer, Lawson would also cover everything from Urban music tours and album release parties to the red carpet. Less than 2 years later, she moved from freelance writer to Managing Editor of the industry trade publication, Mickey Turntables’ Behind the Scenes Magazine and co-host of its weekly syndicated radio show, “Behind the Scenes Gospel” (Buffalo, NY); it would go on to syndicate into 30 markets.

Denise later worked with Gospel Truth Magazine, (Houston, TX) as Managing Editor and, later, Editor-At-Large. This enabled her to interview with great pastors, artists, producers, radio talent, faith-based and other industry leaders. During that time, she also wrote features for various print and online outlets like Gannett News’ Democrat & Chronicle, About …Time Magazine and worked as frequent guest editor for NV – the New Vision in Business (New York, NY). These assignments gave her access to a national political and financial writing “beat.”

Denise Lawson attributes any modicum of success she has to Andre Marcel (PD, WDKX), Kerry Douglas (publisher, Gospel Truth Magazine), and Tony Johnson (publisher, Behind The Scenes) for pushing her hard enough so that she would “make it happen;” Radio One’s Jerry Smith and RCA Inspiration’s B. Jeff Grant for always having her back; Marvin Sapp for scribbling “This is Your Season,” on her notebook one day; Corey “Coco Brother” Condrey for encouraging her to “say yes to whatever God has in store.”

Denise Lawson lives on the East coast, in Rochester, NY and Atlanta, GA.
