Live from Atlanta, at the tenth anniversary of the #A3c Music Festival, we finally caught up with producer and Harvard scholar 9th Wonder where he share his incredible story about leading a scene in North Carolina with the incredible Little Brother crew to not giving Jay Z a track he had for his own group. The breakup with Phonte and Big Pooh, making hits for Destiny's Child and why he's going so hard for his Jamla Records premier artist Rapsody, why he really wants to collaborate with Rich Homie Quan and of course, his journey in becoming a professor at Harvard University. This was truly an honor building with 9th and I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

This week on A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal, we welcome Interscope A&R Brocky Marciano to the Upper West Side! Brocky talks growing up in Santa Barbara, California with little money but lots of musical influences in his life, cruising through high school with dreams of playing college baseball, and seeing those plans dashed when weed, women and boredom came into the picture. Brocky discusses creating fake report cards and getting kicked out of school, working on record company street teams and film sets, trying to maintain in his early 20s, and ultimately taking a buttoned-up gig at an agency. After quitting that job and living out of his Chevy Impala, Brocky teamed up with Diamond Clothing, found his way next to rappers and producers and became a very important link in the streetwear-music timeline. Brocky talks wanting to bring more to the table, branching into management and A&R consulting, working on music with Kendrick Lamar, Wale, ScHoolboy Q, Curren$y, Xzibit, Cardo Got Wings, and labels like Columbia, Atlantic, Def Jam and Interscope. All that, plus Jerry Seinfeld, Hip-Hop, Travis Scott, SXSW, batting cages, Foot Locker, The Big Lebowski, and more!

This week on A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal, we welcome one of the most notable and  influential sneaker collectors today and over the last thirty years, Mayor, to the Upper West Side! Mayor discusses growing up in The Bronx under the no-nonsense wing of his bingo-playing, knife-weilding mother, watching big rappers roll into his childhood neighborhood to bag all the best girls, and how local kids fronting on his elementary school sneakers provided the battery in his back that led him to grow one of the most legendary shoe collections in the world. We talk early jobs at Blimpie, at a shoe store uptown, and in shaving crack down to make a profit behind the big dealers' backs. Mayor details going to high school with Fat Joe, investing in the seminal nightclub Esso, visits from Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Foxy Brown and Lil Kim and Puffy bringing in the highest bar night ever to that point, meeting DJ Clark Kent and wanting a stereo system just like Clark's, as well as the incredible circumstances that led the nightclub to ultimately shut down. Mayor gets into the reasons why he went to jail at 30 years old, what happened mere hours after he got released, how he moved past the street life into private business, and how publications, influencers and tastemakers made Mayor, as he claims, "fake famous." All that plus fatherhood, getting his driver's license at 23 years old, being overly honest with Mary J. Blige, his thoughts on the sneaker resale game, how exactly he got the new KAWS Jordan 4s, what animal Pusha T is deathly afraid of, and much, much more!

Episode 17 - JONATHAN SHECTER aka "SHECKY GREEN"
Philadelphia born, Harvard graduate, and Source Magazine founder Shecky Green joins the crew on the R.O.A.D. podcast.  With over 30 years in the music industry, Shecky takes us though his journey, where it all started in Philly.  From the first time he heard "Rappers Delight", to interning at the local radio station just to be apart of the culture.  Shecky also explains the importance of Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and the impact they had on Philadelphia hip hop.  Shecky goes into detail on why he feels that 1988 was the biggest year in hip hop to date.  Upon attending Harvard University, Shecky explains how The Source Magazine came to fruition, and how, at the time there was no one addressing hip hop music in the journalism world.   Once moved to New York, Shecky also expresses the trials of the east coast not wanting to hear hip hop from other areas of the country.   Jaime addresses "Unsigned Hype" and what that meant to hip hip, and Shecky tells the story of how The Notorious B.I.G. was discovered through this process.   Shecky also shares with the crew an epic story of how he was introduced to Nas' first album "Illmatic".   After moving to the west coast in 2003, Shecky tells of his role in bringing big name DJ's to Las Vegas.  Names include DJ AM, Mark Ronson, etc.   He also tells the story of negotiating DJ AM's first million dollar contract, and how that raised the bar for DJ's in general.   Shecky continues by speaking on the EDM era, and how it directly coincided with his time at the Wynn.

Welcome to the R.O.A.D. Podcast.  The show gives you unfiltered opinions from the eyes and ears of 3 seasoned DJs from the Las Vegas nightclub industry. DJ Crooked and DJ Neva come to us by way of New York; Manhattan and The Bronx respectively. Both relocated to Vegas in the early 2000s to open, what was then, Light and Jet Nightclub.   Crooked is known for his workhorse mentality, and high-energy DJ sets, but has never been one for the industry politics.  While DJ Neva has earned his OG status due to his countless years of experience in the DJ game. In 2007, they brought a piece of home with them by founding KNYEW (an acronym for “Keeping New York Every Where), a successful clothing brand, the first of its kind to be seen in Las Vegas. Similarly, Jaime Da Great grew up in LA. Jaime, while making a huge name for himself in the sneaker industry, has shifted his focus to becoming a full-time DJ.
