Our Song to Sing

The first time we ever visited this mission just south of Tucson was over 20 years ago.  Not being a particularly religious person, I was surprisingly overwhelmed with an intense spiritual feeling during that first visit, and again each time we go back.  Something special about this place and what it represents.  If you are ever out west and near Tucson, give it a visit.  Wrote the words to this song after visiting a town arts festival in Patagonia yesterday, and seeing a small painting of the mission on display. Where Heaven Meets the Sand

This song grew from a short story I related to friends on FB about simply refinishing a trashed table we once found in a Baltimore alley while walking our dog Lucy and refinishing it into something beautiful.  

After a number of comments suggesting that there was more to the story than simply refinishing a piece of old furniture, I decided to write a song based on that story.

As I wrote the lyrics and worked hard at producing a certain sound and listening over and over again, I came up with the final result you can listen to here.
The more I played it and listened to my own words, the more I realized it was about something much more important than that table.  It was about People, relationships, rescued pets and life in general.

Please listen, share with your friends, and see if it has an effect on you more than the simple story about refinishing an old table.

A strange business trip to Nairobi from Dulles to meet colleagues from around the world to carry out an assignment.  First night there in a dark, seedy bar where the beer was almost undrinkable and the power kept going out. assignment.  Based on a real trip there from several years ago. An American, two Brits and a Dutchman meet in a bar.....
“Embassy Hill After Dark” is a moody, cinematic rock-jazz fusion that paints Nairobi as a noir playground for global misfits—equal parts spy thriller, travelogue, and emotional bonding ritual.

This track by Roadrunner Reverie is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling. The lyrics unfold like a travel diary laced with espionage, discomfort, and unexpected camaraderie. From the opening line—“Dulles to Heathrow, Heathrow to heat”—we’re dropped into a jetlagged descent into Nairobi’s surreal underbelly, where the characters (an American, two Brits, and a Dutchman) navigate power outages, bad beer, and cryptic personalities.
