If you havn’t heard of Bristolian bassweight wizard Circa by now, then his new EP “Searching” will have you feeling like you’ve been found after losing all your mates at a festival. Emotions of excitement as you embrace each other come crashing over you. The last three hours have been spent on your own, you’ve unearthed a hidden hideaway dance tent, shared a smoke with Astro Alan, discovered a phenomenal band, and been blessed with a tiny little holographic square from a strange 7ft fairy named Alice and now the main act you’ve all been waiting for is just about to start. Together, you all run towards the Roadwrx stage and the sound of sludged out squarewave basslines begin to roll across the glades, sparkling eski flutes dance among the fields and the plucks fall playfully from the heavens just as you start to feel that holographic gift rise up through your soul. This, this is what that feeling is, the summer of 2021 love is finally here and Circa’s new EP is that sound. A pure emotional journey showcasing style and versatility. Social Sport is the solo project of Ōtautahi/Christchurch producer Will Duncan. Social Sport’s sound finds its home between an immersive headphone experience and a warehouse dance floor; something that you experience during and after the rave. His inaugural release on Terrorythm came to life in Aotearoa/New Zealand’s striking Mackenzie Country.

"In winter 2021 I took a week off and headed south amid rolling lock downs and covid restrictions here in Aotearoa. I took some synths, drum machines and speakers to set up a makeshift studio in Lake Ohau Village, at the border of the southern alps. It was cold as fuck, so i cranked a small log burner while i fleshed out some ideas i had been playing around with. To keep myself inspired I would walk down to the lake and swim. The water was mostly glacial run off so I would get a massive shot of adrenaline, run back to the house and continue making tunes. It was bliss. By the end of the week I had the bones of 6 or 7 tracks. Three of these became Organic Chemistry. Around this time I had been sharing ideas with fellow Ōtautahi producer Jaga (Ben Hunt). We managed to nail down a structure while collabing during one lockdown and this became the track “Proxy-Self”. After we had both played it out a few times live, I felt like it belonged on the ep.

I have tried to define the meaning or narrative for this release but I guess I'm more into sound design than writing. In brief, Your brain can create heaven and hell in the space of a day, but cold water and creating things helps."
