TRAPPED PART 3 (2016)

Solid Steel (23rd June) In Hour 1 we introduce Joe Goddard, member of Hot Chip and the 2 Bears, songwriter, producer, DJ, remixer and co-founder of the Greco-Roman label. His album 'Electric Lines' is out now with the 3rd single 'Home' (which features vocals of Michigan singer Daniel Wilson), showing his love of disco and perfect for the summer festivals. Indeed you can catch him live on the Park Stage at Glastonbury on Saturday night and more festivals over the coming few months. He had this to say about his mix;
'The heatwave in London made me want to play some more bashy and uptempo music than I normally play- I put together a mix of old and new garage, reggae, techno and jungle that reminds me of pirate radio and summer in the city.  It ends with one of my favourite ever reggae tunes and has my favourite old garage producers Wookie and sticky alongside new star Champion. '

Solid Steel (8th June) This week we're delighted to welcome Everything Is Recorded, the project from Richard Russell who is the head of XL Recordings. The album features appearances from Ibeyi, Sampha, Giggs, Wiki, Syd, and Kamasi Washington among others. He had this to say about his mix;
"The “Everything Is Recorded" album was really made for home listening, its quite reflective. However the sound of it is very influenced by music i've always played as a DJ. When Solid Steel asked me to do a DJ mix i grabbed all the album acapellas and some favourite tunes from the genres that inspired the album: a lot of 80's dancehall, that raw first digital phase of reggae, and 2002 grime, the first wave of eski stuff, and also classic hardcore rave, the scene i came out of, that XL came out of.
Putting the album back amongst all the music that inspired it felt very natural. I played it to Sampha, Infinite and Ibeyi and they all seemed to dig hearing their vocals recontextualised... this mix ties a few threads together. I also did a couple of remixes of older tunes i produced; the Gil Scott Heron “I'lll Take Care Of You" song has a lot of personal meaning for me, and its of course already been remixed by Jamie xx, and sampled by Drake and Rihanna, but i take it somewhere else here. full circle. There are also 2 songs which have never existed in any form, “Computer Love" (Zapp cover which we've performed live) and 8am (new song). The versions of these 2 songs included here are exclusive to this mix."

Solid Steel in association with Serato (26th October) The Herbaliser celebrate the release of their new album 'There were seven' with a mix by Ollie Teeba. It kicks off with Bombay Royale and their take on vintage Indian Cinema classics, then onto the DJ Numark edit of Ernie Hines and into Mr Chop with their own twist. Then it's recent hip hop from Freestyle Professors feat Sadat X, The Legion and Alchemist, a track from The Herbaliser album given an extra dub rinse, two appearances from Large Professor and closing with an Axelrod inspired track from Monophonics. You can catch The Herbaliser live at the Forum in London on 27th Oct alongside DJ Food.
