"After our first three releases laid the foundations of what we're looking to achieve with FKOFd last year, we're opening 2014 with what we hope is an equally powerful message of intent. FKOFd004 also marks a slight departure from our norm, with the label's first few drum & bass-esque releases. But fear not, all four tracks on this EP continue where we left off at the end of 2013... 

"We've long been fans of Austria's DubApes, a production and DJ duo who've been terrorising Europe with their unique take on bass music for the past few years. Having first caught our attention with a number of well received releases on Bacon Dubs, we snapped up a FKOFd EP we felt best summarised Lukas and Salim's signature sound. 'The City' opens FKOFd004, full of threatening ambiance and powerful percussion. 'Feel The Tribe' bridles with tension before unleashing itself as a full-blown skank out riddim, there's no other way to describe it. 'Jah No Dead' takes the EP down a few notches, full of stripped back vocals and floating synths supported by a sublime rolling sub. With its powerful low end and almost Oriental vibe, 'Endangered Dreams' brings the EP to a close - albeit one that's equally at home on the stereo or on the largest of sound systems."

"JahYu’s take on 'Grow' (yep, that was a FKOF Free Download too) pays homage to dub culture. Its tsunami-esque waves of basslines push the outer limits, while intricate panning techniques adding extra dimensions to the track's stereo image. Changes in percussive rhythms twist the structure of this remix, dragging us closer to the audial experience that exists purely to lead sound system meditation. 

"The switch in advanced bass lineage makes this a notable free download by the German producer (one he unfortunately submitted too late for the original 'Grow' remix competition). It's one we feel suitably shakes the foundations. A worthy effort! Respect is also due to our Banana Stand Sound fan, Oxóssi and ADP for the original content… The fire still burns."

Over two years ago, as we prepared the amazing FKOFd001 with @Dubfreqcob, we had no long-term goals for the digital imprint. Looking back over the last 24 releases, we’re absolutely astounded by what we (without spending too much time blowing our own trumpet) and our artists have achieved. And, as we initially had hoped (but not planned), we’ve reached the target we were aiming for with FKOFd. More on that front very soon…

“The 24th EP on FKOFd sees us, as is becoming customary, welcome new musicians to the FatKidOnFire stable. As you may have noticed over the course of the last two years, just over a third of the releases have come from British producers. That’s not by design, but we wanted to take time to champion UK musicians for our second anniversary. We’ve been keeping an eye on the Bristol-based Isolate for nearly a year now, first coming across Hugh and Iain’s work thanks to an appearance on Distance’s superb Chestplate podcast series. We first starting working with the duo towards the end of 2014 and here we are 11 months later with their debut release on FKOF…

“Isolate open proceedings on FKOFd024 with the decidedly minimal ‘Damaged’. The track carries the duo’s traits that first caught our attention - with its crisp percussion, space and atmospherics. ‘Damaged’ seems to lurk in the edges of your consciousness, hinting at what’s to come without ever revealing too much of itself. ‘Hyperion’ is a decidedly more aggressive affair; presenting itself with growls and hypnotic rolling weight. Definitely one to enjoy on a larger system if you can. It’s track three, however - the mysterious ‘Program’ - that fully demonstrates why we’re so excited about Isolate. As the drop arrived in Distance’s Chestcast, we knew this was something special. Raw, unbridled power mixed with an intriguing subtlety and a hint of real threat. This is a tune we’ve been testing in the dance and it never disappoints. The final inclusion on FKOFd024 is a collaborative effort with Slynch - a fellow producer we also feel is criminally unrecognised. ‘Fandango’ is a grimey, synth-laden affair, one we feel amply demonstrates why more people should be following these musicians. With its almost industrial atmospheres and spatial elements, this is instant screwface material - a sure sign of something we can get behind. 

“We’re not surprised the likes of Hatcha have signed material from the Isolate boys, and if they keep making tunes like these they’re destined for a truly great future. We’re delighted to welcome them to the FKOF family, even more so that we can do so with the 24th release. And what a release this is!”

Orignally from Chirstchurch, New Zealand. Been on the move for 15 years and now settled in Albury in New South Wales. I've Dj'd since I was a young buck, influenced by 90's hiphop, jazz and mostly UK bass music. Decided its time to teach myself music production so I've picked up Ableton Live and a push to go with it. Lots to learn but going at my own pace.  Its never to late to learn something is it ??? haha will soon find out. After years of going by the alias of oBque ive decided its time for name change to reflect more on myself, hence the name Roamr.
