The Return is the final track on the concept album SONAR. My intentions were to try to create a soundscape whereby a wounded submarine creeps lowly back to its base following a mission.

The team of Rob Gravelle and John Perinbam went way back to the 60s to reimagine The Monkees classic in a modern driving rock style.  

Inspired by a street named Pleasant Valley Way and their move to suburban West Orange, New Jersey, Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote the song about dissatisfaction with the life in the suburbs.

The Monkees version added a flashy guitar intro played by Michael Nesmith and a reverb ending. It became one of the band's most successful singles, peaking at No. 3 and continuing their string of top 10 hits. The song was included on Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.

In life everything is a beginning. There is always a first time for everything, and seeing my daughters grow up and experiment and see new things and games, made me remember the adventurers who discovered something for the first time: a new landscape, a new pyramid, a new invention, a continent. unknown by who discovers it....

That inspired me in this composition.

Never use so many harps in the same composition.

My ipad was saturated and did not allow to clearly hear what I was doing until I converted it to a wav file.

18 native instrument tracks from Music Studio2 and forum Xewton and 10 tracks from KV331.

Made on ipad and mixed in my car. As a curiosity, this was one of the first compositions that I mixed in the car that I had then, when I put BT in it (I used a Parrot kit), since originally it did not incorporate it. For the most curious ... it was an Opel Vectra.

At home producer of electronic tracks in varying styles - I really enjoy experimenting with melding different genres. 
Been writing songs since the mid 70's whilst playing bass & drums in various bands (the first one was a punk band) and digitally writing since 2006. Retired now, so much more time for having fun with music :) It's just a hobby for me these days; Soundcloud is just a great place to share music & connect with people who have the same interests. Rob Gravelle and John Perinbam have collaborated several times on covers of classic rock songs, starting with Cheap Trick’s Dream Police back in 2010. More recently, the duo produced a blistering rendition of Deep Purple’s Highway Star.  The duo also recorded the KNIGHTFALL CD with Annihilator’s Jeff Waters in 2009 in addition to several albums with their band Ivory Knight.
