Belgian techno don Marco Bailey lands on Watergate with a debut that’s guaranteed to intrigue as he leans into electro territory. 

DJ, producer and label chief, his is a storied career that spans three decades, and it’s long been evident that Marco’s enthusiasm and passion remains resolute. He closed 2021 with the release of his sixth studio album Surreal Stage, an ambitious, introspective body of work that dropped via his booming imprint Materia. His own label aside, his discography is stacked with cuts across eminent labels Second State, ARTS, Bedrock Records, as well as being one of the first artists to debut on Carl Cox’s seminal INTEC. While it’s techno that he’s become firmly associated with, his adeptness in the studio isn’t limited to the nuances of one genre and this is a rare opportunity to showcase a different side to his musicality. 

It’s ‘From My Mind’ that delivers first and sticks in your mind - from the heavy synth bassline to the soaring ascendant melody, and distorted, robotic vocals. ‘The Spirit’ floods in next, almost immediately engaging listeners as it ebbs and flows with complete abandon. If the promise of electro grabbed your attention, ‘Pulse’ slaps and packs plenty of punch power as it snakes its way through with dominating, ascendant chords.

German duo Extrawelt and Belgian export Biesmans step in with rerubs of ‘From My Mind’, and firmly grip some of the elements which make this electro excursion so memorable. Steve Rachmad seizes his Sterac Electronics alias, staying true to form in getting deeper and darker with a brooding, stirring trip that begs for immediate replay. Techno linchpin The Advent links up with Zein Ferreira, delivering a cut that blazes with ascending notes and a scattering of twisted elements beneath the winding vocal bleed. Axel Haube, a rising Belgian artist, is last in and he weaves a rolling bassline through a rerub that lifts the mood with a celestial melody and skyward keys.

Snoozing the Music from Plants C1 is a 4-track EP that explores the frontier of post-digital music creation, where organic, biological inputs merge with artificial intelligence under the careful guidance of human curation. This project serves as a practical application of the Sergej Snooze current research. analyzing the intersection of objective data, technical execution, and emergent aesthetic patterns.

The Creative Process: A Fusion of Three Intelligences. This EP is a genuine act of co-creation involving three distinct stages of intelligence:

The Bio-Generated Signal (Nature as Input): The entire foundation of this EP began with the raw, bio-generated electrical signals captured directly from a plant. This original sound, recorded as an audio sample ("Music from Plants"), provides the organic, evolving lead melody and core timbre that drives all four tracks. It is the initial, non-human data input.
The AI Interpreter (The Socio-Technical System): The raw plant signal was fed into Suno AI, a sophisticated generative music platform.

The Human Curator (The Emergent Pattern Analyzer): The crucial final—and most time-consuming—step was human curation. From dozens of AI-generated iterations and extensions, the best four tracks were selected based on their ability to elicit the desired output that suits Sergej Snooze public appearance in terms of music expression  This highlights a key finding: in a post-digital world, human selection and curation are as vital to the creative process as the initial generation of the music itself.

A Research-Driven Release
Ultimately, Snoozing the Music from Plants C1 is not just a collection of songs; it is a sonic experiment demonstrating that meaningful, impactful art emerges from the dynamic interplay between biological life, powerful algorithms, and critical human decision-making.

Kurkure — a waterfall born of stone and wind. Its name, in the Altai language, means “roaring” — and indeed, this is not water that simply falls, but erupts from the cliffs as a living force. From a height of thirty meters, it crashes down with a sound that fills the entire valley — a sound you can feel in your chest. Its roar is the breath of the earth itself, its heartbeat pulsing in rhythm with the element. Kurkure is where water becomes music, and sound becomes water. Here, nature creates its own dub — the rhythm of stones, the bass of mountains, the echo of wind, and the pulse of Altai. This is a waterfall where water does not merely fall — it opens a gateway. For centuries, shamans have entered dreams here: in the thunder of water, they heard the voices of spirits; in the spray, they saw visions of other worlds.

Vol. 8 of Mountain Altai VA is dedicated to this sacred place — the point where the energy of water transforms into pure sound. Nine tracks cascade like waterfalls, where every note is a drop in motion, and every bassline — a collision of element and stone.

Its voice can be heard for miles, yet up close, within the roar, you can hear something else — a rhythm that beats like the pulse of life itself. In that sound lives energy, balance, and infinite motion. This part of the collection, created in celebration of the third anniversary of [PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB], is dedicated to water — living, free, untamed.
Here, dub techno becomes a current — transparent, fluid, unpredictable. It is music that flows, breathes, and purifies. It is Altai — in its purest sound.
