In dieser Folge von Clubroom Backstage treffe ich Jiyun Kim - eine DJ, die mir erst über ihre energiegeladenen Sets bei Refugees im Radio aufgefallen.
Jiyun, im Ruhrpott als Kind koreanischer Eltern aufgewachsen, erzählt von ihrer Kindheit zwischen zwei Kulturen und den teils skurrilen Momenten im deutschen Alltag. Über Hip-Hop fand sie zu ihren ersten DJ-Gigs, zog später nach Berlin, arbeitete im PR-Bereich und spielte für zahlreiche Brands, bevor sie ihre große Liebe zur House Music entdeckte.
Heute steht sie kurz davor, selbst zu Produzieren. Eine klassische, ehrliche Musiklaufbahn: manchmal halb entschieden, manchmal voller Zweifel, aber immer mit dem Drang, das Leben um die eigene Leidenschaft herum zu gestalten.

Nicolas Masseyeff is one of the most respected figures in French electronic music, with a career spanning over three decades between the dancefloor and the studio. Hailing from the French Riviera, he has built a sound defined by melodic depth, groove and emotional sensitivity, with releases on labels such as Herzblut, Crosstown Rebels, Suara and his own Diversions Music, as well as collaborations with artists including OXIA, Kittin and Parallelle. On Alaplay 644, Masseyeff delivers a refined and fluid set that moves from organic and deep atmospheres into more dancefloor-driven territory, before closing on a hypnotic and introspective note — featuring his recent track “Taian”, released at the end of 2025. A mix that clearly reflects his artistic maturity and sonic vision.

In dieser sehr persönlichen Club-Room-Backstage-Folge spreche ich mit Sofia Kourtesis über ihre außergewöhnliche musikalische Reise. 
Sie erzählt, wie sie Peru verließ, nachdem sie dort wegen ihrer Identität keine Freiheit fand, und wie sie über Hamburg nach Berlin kam, zunächst im Chalet arbeitete 
und parallel ihren ganz eigenen Sound entwickelte. Bald folgten erste Releases und Unterstützung von Caribou, DJ Koze und Bonobo.

Tief berührend berichtet sie auch von der Zeit, in der sie ihre schwerkranke Mutter bis zum Ende begleitete. 
Jetzt blickt Sofia nach vorn: 2026 wird ihr großes Jahr – mit neuem Album und ihrer DJ-Kicks für !K7. Ein Gespräch voller Mut, Musik und persönlicher Offenheit.

Clubroom Backstage Ep 17  Sofia Kourtesis - Die Magie mit DJ Koze im Studio

ACID TEK ROBACID

"Global fusion" is a term coined in 1980's to describe the postmodern transnational mixtures between different cultural heritages. Like Pizza Americana or Peter Gabriel's recordings with Pakistani Sufi singers.

If we adapt the term, we can wholeheartedly say that music can't actually get much more global than it is here on Ya Tosiba's debut ep. On this splendid piece of black wax produced by Finnish skweee pioneer Mesak and sung by Azerbaijan-Norwegian ethnomusicologist/rapper Dj Zuzu you'll find a wide spectrum of influences ranging from Arabic folk music to electro funk and modern R'n'B.

On Mad Barber and Baku Hipster heavy electronic drum beats are high fiving bubbling analogue synthesizers and traditional eastern instruments, deliciously topped with Dj Zuzu's hypnotic Azerbaijani rapping. Bizarre, yet beautiful: Music that is equally suitable for dischotèques and home listening. The fantastic remixes on this record are provided by the legendary German synthesizer visionaries Mouse on Mars and the Turkish masters of mesmerizing psychedelia, Baba ZuLa.

It has been said that the development of communication technology obscures forms of music and increases musical homogeneity and blurring of regional identities. We at Harmönia Records don't believe in that type of gibberish. And we definitely don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for the world to play music together. If you're in doubt, put this record on your turntable, drop the needle to the groove and crank the volume up.

If Ya Tosiba doesn't rock your boat, you're not from our planet anyway.
