Of course Funk & Disco first entered the Electronic music scope long ago in the form of House music. However some new styles are emerging that definitely offer something more in tune with the sampling gymnastics of Future Beat-Makers like Onra, whose Disco infused 2010 LP Long Distance, helped pioneer the sound. The next year genre chameleon Toro Y Moi brought the same Disco influences on Underneath the Pine that Daft Punk came back with this year on Random Access Memories. Marrying the drum-machine hip-hop aesthetic with a '70s influenced Funk sound, I’ve opted to go with the term “Future Funk” to help map out this new diverse and perfectly sunny summer music.

Eric Prydz today unveiled his new Pryda EP. It’s a classic slice of the inimitable Pryda sound that has defined the label’s output over the last ten years, and united the dance community. Pryda 028 is the first Pryda release to ever contain four tracks, and comes hot on the heels of the anthemic Eric Prydz summer hit ‘Liberate’.

These four tracks – Mija, Origins, Axis, & Backdraft - show another side to Pryda, one firmly rooted in the label’s club roots. Pryda 028 speaks to Prydz’ love of dark rooms and late nights, dancefloors with their heads down – audiences losing themselves in a journey, surrendering to the music, rather than demanding another recognizable drop.

Pryda 028 another genre defining release for Pryda – its house music but first and foremost it’s Pryda. The EP’s intricate blend and layering of harmonies and hooks, replete with that distinctive Prydz touch for melody, combine to make club music that just couldn’t come from anyone else.

Ten years and 28 releases in, Prydz and his Pryda label remain in the enviable position of straddling a line between the overground and underground, an achievement that is ever more difficult in the polarized world of contemporary electronic music.

Whether it’s a mainstage slot, or a dark after-hours session as his techno alias Cirez D, Prydz fans have come to expect something different and unique from the Swede. At a time when EDM festival mainstages homogenate, Prydz seems to stand further and further apart. This Pryda EP is an uncompromising exploration of the style and sound that define one of dance music’s truly singular talents.

'Sub Conscious' was originally conceived as the exclusive track for Erol Alkan's 'FabricLive 77' mix, which was released to major critical acclaim back in August. A highlight track within the mix, 'Sub Conscious' has now been remixed by Tin Man and new Phantasy signing Kamera. 

Over the last decade Tin Man has explored an ever-evolving sound palette that touches on house, techno and ambient. His tracks have been laced with slow and subtly shifting patterns that are infused with a very real machine soul and captivating warmth. In his remix of ‘Sub Conscious’, Tin Man drapes Alkan's celestial strings and piano stabs over his own bassline to blissful, rousing effect.

Robert Babicz is a man on a mission, the Cologne based producer stands tall as one of only a handful of distinctive artists who are bold enough to breathe life into their productions with true emotion. His creations display a level of honesty and soul that sets them apart from so much of today’s here-today-gone-tomorrow disposable music - the mark of a true musical innovator. Here, he returns to Bedrock and reveals his talent and skill as one of Europe's most essential techno producers, with two stunning tracks for the summer season.

The wonderfully deep, wobbly throb of “Fading Hearts” is a masterclass in dub-inflected hip-swinging goodness. Overlaid with gorgeous, subtle melodic flourishes, its angelic beauty is a true wonder to behold. Meanwhile, “Density Disrupted” turns up the darkness factor, shifts proceedings up a gear and gets suitably twisted in supreme style, showing another side to Babicz’s seemingly infinite creative palette.

Robert Babicz moved to Germany from his native Poland in 1980 and began making dance music in the early 1990s, when acid house was at its peak of popularity. His career has thus already spanned more than two decades and it is evidently clear from the music that he creates, that he has devoted his life to his craft. 

A much-respected connoisseur of sound design and production, his services as a mastering engineer are in demand all over the world. He is also well known as an exciting live performer, utilizing a host of synths and live equipment to enhance the improvisation in every set he plays. But Babicz's art is comprised of more than just his music. He films everything, later editing the images together as a visual accompaniment to his audio. His short films capture the emotions, colours and feel of his trips and, in turn, these then also have an effect on his music, colouring his emotive, unique take on electronica with a very human feel. 

If you like what you hear and want to dig a little deeper into the Bedrock back catalogue to check out Robert Babicz’s previous adventures on the label, you could start with 2010’s “Pink Trees”, his remix of Pete Heller’s “Nu Acid”, the stupendous “Welcome To The 90’s” from Bedrock 12, “Eastside” from Bedrock 14, “Rabbit Clouds” from the Underground Sound Of Miami Series 3, and his huge “Rave Angel”.

This is the second release by Mark Deutsche & Musoé on Noir Music and a great follow up to their techno stomper “Push”. On “Express Yourself” the German guys have teamed up with Xenia Beliayeva who wrote and performed some lush vocals on top of the duo's hypnotic techno vibes. The outcome is an addictive journey that will have any techno crowd go crazy.

Both Andre Winter and Ernesto Ferreyra has poured their excellent production skills all over the release and made unique remixes of this beast. Andre Winter sticks to his solid techno vibes and his rock-solid sound known from Ideal Audio and Senso Sounds.
Ernesto Ferreyra cleverly turns the journey a lot deeper, layered and dubby spaced out.
