‘Aye Aye Mi Mi’ is the second single from Mano Le Tough’s new album, ‘At The Moment’ which is out now on Pampa Records; . The single really highlights the vocal & instrumental skills of the Irish producer, resulting in an indie dance ear-worm that’s hard to shake.

“It’s the only tune on the record that survived from my original batch of demos and sketches” says Mano. “It’s a kind of reflection on narcissism, social media saturation and the ego”.

On 9th July Crosstown Rebels released ‘TTOE Remixes #3’ – the third in a trio of Eps featuring reworks from Krust’s lauded masterpiece ‘The Edge Of Everything’. The selection of top-drawer artists delighted to rub shoulders with the revered master added UNKLE, Hodge and DJ Nature to a list that has seen Masters At Work, Four Tet, Damian Lazarus, Batu, Calibre, LCY and Flynn all deliver inspired versions. Following ‘TTOE Remixes #3’ EP, the full set of reworks is now released via Crosstown Rebels as an album called ‘The Edge Of Everything - Remixed’.

Linking back to a shared history that saw Krust (alongside Roni Size) remix DJ Krush’s ‘Dig This Vibe’ and also provide their own track ‘Tribetoon’ for the seminal ‘Headz 2’ compilation, both on James Lavelle’s label Mo’Wax, now the influential DJ/producer/A&R delivers arguably his best ever work under the UNKLE alias, with deep breakbeat goodness that’s both classic and perfectly now.

A sonic son of Krust, fellow Bristolian Hodge works ‘Constructive Ambiguity’ into a proggy new school breaks monster that carves the original’s metallic bass into sharp new shapes, whilst sparkling like melodic stars is Four Tet’s take on ‘Negative Returns’, which packs a deceptively heavy punch, maintaining the original’s hurtling velocity, fuelled by a huge sub-bass engine.

In an exchange that reaches back to 1997, Krust sampled Masters At Work alias Nuyorican Soul’s ‘Nautilus (Mawtilus)’/‘Mind Fluid’ on his game-changing single ‘Soul In Motion’. This was reciprocated in 1998 by Nuyorican Soul’s remix of ‘Watching Windows’ by Reprazent, of which Krust was a key member. Here the duo individually known as Kenny ”Dope” Gonzalez and Little Louie Vega deliver pure audiophile euphony, somewhere between broken beat, real house, cosmic acid and future jazz funk.

A rugged halftime head-nodder (which again brings things full circle) is by Krust’s brother Flynn – a fellow member of 1989 ‘Wishing On A Star’ hitmakers Fresh 4 alongside Krust, and also a jungle legend in his own right, as half of veteran duo Flynn & Flora. More West Country royalty comes from Wild Bunch founder Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature’s wigged-out Martian house by way of New York – which, in another of Krust’s many thematic circles – echoes the Latin-tinged, blunted science of Nu Yorican Soul’s ‘Mind Fluid’ and ‘The Nervous Track’.

Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus maintains Krust’s epic adventure narrative, retelling the tale in his own words, taking recognisable parts from the original and transposing them into a groovy cosmic house odyssey, whilst Calibre turns ‘It’s A Lot’ into a warm, glowing two-step roller with serrated analogue bass and masterful musicality befitting his classical training.

The spiralling beat-and-bass science of Batu’s version takes ‘Space Oddity’ and deconstructs it like a cubist portrait, matching Krust himself in pure outside-the-box original expression. Rising new school leader LCY is clearly a kindred spirit too, rivalling Krust with their future-facing breakbeat science that’s equally as compelling and inventive as the original.

With such inspiring source material, it’s unsurprising that all of the remixers have brought their best game to this impeccable collection.

Rising London producer Jasper Tygner embodies our fervent return to those euphoric and hazy post-rave hours in his debut EP on Silver Bear Recordings.

Set to bolster his status as an artist to watch for blissed-out electronica, the EP quickly follows Jasper’s first label signing on leftfield electronic imprint Needwant which earned him high praise from Radio 1, 1Xtra and Radio 6 Music, while his stream of viral studio sessions have captured the attention of Bicep, DJ Seinfeld, KiNK and Jordan Rakei, among others.

Performing in jazz and classical orchestras, and studying under grammy-nominated film composer Stephen Endleman have lent an unmistakable emotional depth to his affective productions which often nod to his reverence for London-born club sounds from jungle through to dubstep and garage. The EP was produced during the second lockdown and the four tracks take aim at our collective craving for clubbing. With Jasper burying himself in photography and film from the UK and Berlin’s early rave days, he utilises the images to envisage what those first post-lockdown raves and afterparties will be like.

Opening single ‘ME!’ is an expansive composition which showcases Jasper’s melody-driven, invigorating style of storytelling which pulls listeners through a myriad of emotions. Second single release ‘Change Your Mind’ is a wistful cut which evokes the energy of the afterhours via stirring, spiralling synth lines. ‘That’s Too Slow’ brings the nostalgia for clubbing into the sonic plane with a spirit-lifting lead line, while ‘With You’ completes the package, coming through with a flurry of vitalising breaks.

Vhyce returns to Pets with more of his beautiful signature cosmic disco and his timing is exquisite. Making his debut on Catz & Dogz label earlier this year with 'One Day We'll Float', the release landed just at the right time as we all plummeted into a bleak new year.

Now as summer begins to open up again, and things look a little brighter, he returns with equally precision-timed sounds. With its sultry bassline and big romantic pads, 'Monde Réel' hits with a big dose of hope. Translating to 'real world', this is a homage to the future. And that positivity remains on 'Insieme'. This time translating to 'together', it's another moment of unity as Vhyce takes us up and down the scale in classic Q&A arpeggiated style. Soft, gentle but emotionally soaring; you can almost feel the hugs as the woozy synths roll out.

Always one for balance, Vhyce includes the much tenser and introspective 'Subdued' for those darker moments when unity and togetherness seemed so far away. Then Catz N Dogz close the show themselves with a startlingly bright and dreamy take on 'Monde Réel'. Hopeful, fun, wholesome feel-good electronic music. Because Vhyce makes it so damned well. And because we all deserve to float again.

Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Selador head honcho (job share) Steve Parry has reacted to the challenges of 2020 (which, as we are contractually obliged to note, are very much of the unprecedented variety) in the way all true creatives should – by just gettin’ busier.

Having been on a studio roll in 2019 (see Control Machine with Luke Brancaccio on Selador and Don’t You Ever Stop on Bedrock), the lack of gigs in 2020 has freed Steve up to go into overdrive as a producer. Having opened the Selador year with Spion 10 (in those heady, far off days when we were still allowed out into the after dark netherworld), he ruled summer’s virtual dancefloors with the irrepressible Fenner.

Having enjoyed support from numerous tastemakers, Steve completes his 2020 Seladorian release hat trick with a mighty double header, in the shape of Roll the Dice and What You Make It.

With the label’s goal “to showcase the best in house and techno and all the flavours in-between”, it’s no surprise to find one of the men charged with delivering on that promise so adept at doing just that himself with his genre-defying output.

Roll the Dice is relentless, its beats pummel like a panel beater possessed, its core riff buzzes like a fly stuck in a roller blind, riding a bullet train of a bassline – but gradually shimmering keys come to the fore as the epic crescendo is reached.

What You Make It twists and turns, tweaks and teases, a teutonic vibe to the fore as Steve channels both the acidic madness of peak Hardfloor and the metronomic magnificence of vintage Kraftwerk into a heady 2020 brew.

While our world remains on hold, and our dancing remains housebound, we suggest you reinforce your living room floor for these beauties.
