What’s Happened? - Abe Duque & Blake Baster. Abe was one of my instructors back at Dubspot when I was taking classes on DJing and Ableton. And he was very inspirational and helpful so when I would stumble across his tracks in the wild it really hit home for me. And this track he made just seem to fit perfectly as a homage to what had happened in the past and what was currently happening to us now with Output closing.

The Groovy Cat (Extended Mix) – PAWSA. I’ve always love to make people laugh, take chances and throw curveballs so when I first heard this track and knew I had to play it. Playing the Pink Panther theme song in THE PANTHER ROOM. Enough said I get goosebumps just hearing it. Let me just say a few of the friends in the room knew what was coming when the music started getting low because they had heard it the one other time before but just imagine the entire room packed wall to wall pausing, some screaming and jumping and once the music came back and people realized what they were hearing and the irony of being in the panther room the room erupted in a shouts of joy and laughter and people started dancing like wild. It was truly one of the best moments.

Midnight Walking – Adriatique. I planned to sneak this in right at midnight and it was bittersweet watching everyone enjoy this emotional track again.

Muzik (Kink Remix) – Marc Romboy vs. Blake Baster. Listen closely to the lyrics.

Lets go dancing – Tiga & Audion. Who could resist this classic. Everyone in the room was singing along.

Reverse Skydiving (Tom Shorterz Remix) – Hot Natured. A nasty edit of a classic we love. The look on everyone’s face when the drop comes in so dirty ooo beautiful lol the room exploded with energy.

Forget the world (D-Formation Remix) – John Creamer & Stephane K. Another edit of a classic. Just get lost In this moment.

Your Mind – Adam Beyer. When I say people were losing their minds….and singing at the top of they’re lungs! Cutting the fader to hear everyone signing <3

Domino – Oxia. Probably the most requested track when I was surveying people. Uou cant beat this classic and it was certainly a treat to hear this one last time in that room! Once again, the crowd went wild you could feel the entire packed room pulsating in unison.

Don’t Go (DJ Version) – Justin Martin.  I ended my set smiling with tears streaking down my face and giving hugs to anyone in reach as another homage to everything happening. I’ll never forget this heartbreaking moment.

After a sabbatical at the beginning of the year, today we begin our season on Podcasts. Our guest comes from Romania. An excellent curator at his record label and also with historic performances at festivals such as Sunwaves Festival.

One of the most respected DJs in his country, he has been spreading the Romanian music scene around the world for a long time. With stints at record labels such as his own, Atipic Records, Arpiar, RORA and many others.

He masterfully gave us two presentations at this year's Brazilian carnival.

Allow me to paint you a picture and please think about the setting, mood and time period this was taking place while you’re listening to this recording. It’s 10:00pm its cold outside, it’s a little chilly still inside. The fireplace is lit and some old friends are gathered around it with some staff members in a somber yet joyous mood. It’s been a while since a lot of us have been together. We’ve been coming to Output for years. But you know were growing up, further along in our careers, some are in serious relationships/married/have kids and the bottom line is we’re all just getting older. Tonight, we’re coming back together for a reunion in one of our favorite rooms with some of our favorite people for what will most likely be the last time ever. The crowds trickling in quite quickly once doors open. Every few minutes the face of an old long lost friend appears out of the darkness, shouts of excitement are heard, hugs are exchanged, cheers are given and shots are taken. Groups are gathering around the room, there’s subtle movement all about as people start their rituals, warming up with some two stepping and getting ready for their own personal journey. A few of our more outgoing and amazing dancer friends start to arrive. You know the ones that literally start the party each time and the ones where you can’t help but get caught up on their infectious positive energy…I’ll leave you there and let your imagination fill in the rest of the gaps as we danced till the early morning hours one last time… 

And as a side note I just wanted to give some insight into what you’ll hear and why. I spent a lot of time reaching out to close friends and strangers alike getting their input on favorite moments in the panther room, songs they would love to hear for the last time in that room that just hit differently. My goal as always *Fuck all the selfish childish DJs I can’t stand that shit* when I step into the booth was to play for the people in front me not for myself or to “be cool”, to do my best curate a night they will hopefully never forget so there was a lot of throw back feel good tracks, timeless classics, edits of unexpected songs and wild card type tracks. I live to find tracks with words that fit various settings I could be playing in and trying to weave their lyrics together to tell a story when I’m playing. 

I will say one of the blessings/curses of Output was the no photo policy it helped make Output mean something but dam if only I could have some videos and photos to cherish all the countless memoires we shared there. But I wouldn’t change that for anything. I will hold onto and cherish our memories there forever. There truly no greater joy then making people happy, watching the joy on your faces and seeing people coming together to through their love of dancing and quest for music. Much love everyone. Robbie Lumpkin has dedicated his life to the dance floor for over a decade. He got his first taste of electronic music from the now defunct music video channel “The Box” in the late 90s, and growing up in Chicago allowed him to explore the genre at Energy, Crobar and Vision. While studying Economics at the University of Toledo, Robbie took his passion for music to the next step and began teaching himself to DJ. After graduating in 2011, he moved to New York City and pursued formal training at Dubspot for Ableton, Maschine and Sound Design. 

Now an emerging DJ in New York City, Robbie is known for his charismatic personality, dancing and his ability to bring the same energy to his sets that first hooked him when he was younger. Robbie is influenced by elements of every genre of electronic music, but most closely draws his sound from artists like Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, Shadow Child and Dusky. Robbie crosses genres to bring the darker elements of techno with the groovy nature of house and deep house. He and longtime friend Christian Voldstad are the founders and residents of T-Rex Thursday’s at local venues in New York, and Robbie has also played gigs at Open Air and Fight Klub.

With roots in two major hubs of house and techno, and a thirst for travel, Robbie continues to absorb the sounds and culture of the electronic community, channeling it into energetic sets that keep your soul happy and your feet dancing.
