"This is the kind of anecdote I love...behind the global hip-house hit "Pump up the volume" from "M/A/A/R/S" hides one of the most influential and avant-garde projects of the 80s and 90s, and probably the inventors of shoegaze. Alex Ayuli and Rudy Tambala met at primary school in East London and each evolved in effervescent musical communities, from dub sound systems to the jazz funk scene.
In 1986 they founded the group A.R. Kane, and described their sound as influenced by Miles Davis, Cocteau Twins, Velvet Underground and Joni Mitchell. The release of their first album, "69", in 1988 was widely well received by UK music critics, despite the fact that journalists had difficulty categorizing their music. It was subsequently that the duo would choose and invent the genre "dreampop" to describe it. They later released three other albums, "i", "American" and "New clear child", before breaking up in 1994. 
This show is a selection of my favorite tracks from the group, with multiple influences but also at the forefront of many styles developing at the time, ambient dub, trip hop, shoe gaze or pop-rock."
