Following its premiere on BBC 6 Music by Mary Anne Hobbs, Douglas Dare shares the playful new single 'The Joy In Sarah's Eyes', taken from his forthcoming album 'Milkteeth'.

Drawing on a unique gift for writing songs that encapsulate and explore the innocence and simplicity of childhood, ‘The Joy In Sarah’s Eyes’ showcases Douglas’ honest and soul bearing reflection of his formative years. Composed using the autoharp – a new discovery for the multi-instrumentalist – the track draws on indie and folk influences resulting in a Jeff Buckley-esque ballad for a new generation.

Speaking on the track, Douglas explains: “I realise now that Sarah is the child in me; she is the innocent and pure joy that we all have as children that often is lost with age. Remembering this joy and keeping it with you can literally keep you alive, keep you vital.”

Released on February 21, 'Milkteeth' is Douglas' most stripped back album to date. Produced by Mike Lindsay — founding member of Tunng and one half of LUMP with Laura Marling — 'Milkteeth' sees Douglas become confident and comfortable enough with his own identity to reflect on both the joys and pains of youth. In doing so, he has established himself as a serious 21st century singer-songwriter with an enduring lyrical poise and elegant minimalist sound.

Marking his arrival in 2014 with the release of his acclaimed debut 'Whelm' and establishing his musical dexterity on the much darker follow up 'Aforger' in 2016, Dare’s star keeps growing. In 2017 he was asked to contribute a re-interpretation of 'Dance Me to the End of Love' to the Leonard Cohen exhibition 'A Crack in Everything' at the Contemporary Art Museum of Montréal, currently showing at The Jewish Museum in New York before opening at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco in September 2020. He was invited by Robert Smith to perform at his Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre in 2018, followed by the David Lynch-curated Manchester International Festival alongside Anna Calvi in 2019.

Taqadam’s three stretches of relaxed and evocative songs explore the restorative power of music on the mind. Inspired by North African harmonies, the EP’s vibrations orbit around a peculiar tale, one of healing and resolutions. 

Losing faith in his world, a young boy turned to dreams for answers those wiser than him never found. In them he roamed the desert, always a different one. 

The desert conjured a man before him, a storyteller of the region’s Gnawa history. The boy voiced the problems dancing on the surface of his thoughts. The man had no answer for him, only the melodies of a guembri. They were enough. Morning brought relief and a new chapter.

The city conjured a woman before him, the fabrics of her dress vanishing behind corners as they wandered. Her smell was magnetic. One day he worked up the courage to ask her what it could be. ‘Jasmin’, she answered. 

The boy went back to where it started, this time awake and in the sweetest of companies. When he plucked the guembri strings, they echoed throughout the desert.

They’ve started to chill together, talking about life, gear and Brittany. One day he sent them about 40 demos, saying he’d love to release his first EP on Supergenius Records. Impressed by the quality of the tracks, they instantly said yes. That was the easy part. The tough one was to select the tunes for this release, as each one was more amazing than the last.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Master Flashhh, new to the game but not newbie at all. Cinematic, audacious, thought-provoking, his music is carved with great attention to detail and storytelling. In Blue Eyes, the producer draws his inspiration from concrete architecture, backpacking in the Atacama desert on LSD (Los Salvajes Discos) and long solitary walks alongside the ocean in Finistère Brittany (Blue Eyes). Hailing from Paris red light district, his neighbors banging behind the wall gives him original sound material too (X-Rated).
