After a lengthy hiatus, Tuskegee Music is back with a heavyweight release indeed: it features tracks written by Detroit heavyweights Seth Troxler—under his Young Seth alias— and cult FXHE boss Omar S. Amazingly they were written 11 years ago and have been long forgotten until recently being unearthed.
The first track here was inspired by a trip Seth made to Berlin’s Club Der Visionaere in 2005. “It basically was me returning to Detroit and telling Omar about this crazy music I heard Ricardo play during the day.” The result, ‘Deep’(CDV 2006 Mix), is a spine tingling atmospheric deep house track. The drums are lo-fi and loose, the bassline is a meandering thing that really sucks you in and soft, gentle toms tumble around the groove and encourage you to cut loose.
Then comes the experimental slow motion drum shuffle of ‘Detroit After Midnight’ which the pair made after “finding loads of weird records in his basement sampling them and making a classic MPC Detroit cut.” It has the sounds of people talking as if coming from the room next door laid over a lazy and undulating bassline, and is brilliantly weird and sketchy.
Last of all, Young Seth goes solo on ‘Luiza’s Inferno’ five minutes of him jamming on Omar’s MS20 with a warbling synth line coated in warm tape hiss and layers of dust. It’s a beatless piece that shows how inventive and ahead of his time Troxler was even as a young man.
This is a brilliantly unusual EP and another winner for Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers’ Tuskegee label.

Premiere: Matt Tolfrey - Between The Lines (Mathias Kaden's No Gravity Remix) [Oblack Label]

'Dutch duo Lövestad may be a new name to many but probably not if you live in
Holland in which case you’ve more than likely caught them rocking their hardware- based live set at the likes of Into The Woods, Welcome To The Future, Wildeburg and Loveland. To say these guys have become local heroes in their own country is something of an understatement, but they won’t be a best kept secret for too long having already been booked to play at some of Berlin’s best spots including Panorama Bar, Katerblau and IPSE.  What makes Lövestad so unique is that releasing records has always been secondary to performing live - something Jimpster relates to from his years spent touring with The Bays. With only a handful of self-released EP’s appearing on Bandcamp Lövestad can be seen as taking the classic band approach of building a fiercely loyal and genuine fanbase through a tireless gigging schedule. Their infectious energy stands as a testament that good, honest musicianship, not to mention funk, is still alive and kicking in electronic music.

Here at Freerange, we’re proud and excited to be giving Lövestad their first ‘official’ release in the form of the Miles EP including an original full length version, Jimpster Edit and Jimpster Dub.  Focusing first on the original, we can hear how the duo’s hands-on, performance approach informs their studio productions.  Stemming from a live, improvised jam, Miles has a lovely loose feel and sprawling arrangement which imparts the sense of being created on stage in front of a packed dance floor.  The duo’s passion for jazz, fusion, funk, disco and house shines through with big stacks of analogue synths and Fender Rhodes flourishes adding to the warm, euphoric atmosphere of the track.

Jimpster took the stems from the live recording and got busy on an edit which sees him tighten up the arrangement and add a little extra punch to the drums and percussion but without losing the uplifting, soulful spirit of the original.

On his Dub Remix, Jimpster pushes deeper, taking a more minimal approach, reducing everything back to a dubby, heads down shuffling groove and bringing the filtered bassline into focus. The result is a classic slice of Freerange deep house  which gives us the perfect alternative to the blissed-out vibes of the original version.'

Premiere: Lövestad - Miles (Jimpster Dub) [Freerange]

Roberto Rodriguez is a Helsinki-based DJ, producer, radio host and music director. Having started making music at the age of 12 in 1987 and starting to DJ a few years later, Roberto can be called a true veteran. He has released over 50 original releases and 60 remixes including - now- classics like 'Ride With Me’, ’Besomebody’ and ’Oxymoron’. His vast catalog includes releases on labels such as Compost, Freerange, Delusions Of Grandeur, Room With A View, FINA and Eskimo. Just to name a few. 

Among his DJ and producing duties, Roberto runs his own label Serenades which is now on its third year. In Finland Roberto has a popular weekly radio show which shares its name with his label. Due to his vast experience Roberto's Dj sets are often full of treasures, both old and new, that you've never heard before and may never hear again.
