He has been hailed as "the new Leonard Cohen", an artist who "combines the dexterity of James Taylor’s guitar work with the genius of Bob Dylan’s poetry". Michel Griffin bought his first guitar at 14 because he noticed girls liked guitar players. He never took a guitar lesson but, under the influence of songwriters like Dylan, Cohen, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell, he began to write songs that told stories ...

He’s been writing songs ever since. He has performed regularly on BBC radio (where one of his songs was a Pick of the Week) and his career has taken him all over the world, with spells living in Paris, New York and Switzerland.

He finally settled in the Lot valley in SW France, where he runs the critically acclaimed Cahors Folk Club. He performs at venues all over the area, a tune of his was featured in the American film Married Men, and he has recorded 5 CDs.

In concert, Griffin charms his audiences with self-deprecating wit and, like most clowns, he’s alive to pathos. His lyrics share stories and insights, and his accomplished finger-picking is a perfect foil for his smoky, evocative voice.

Griffin's music blends folk and blues with humour and passion--to produce songs that will echo in your heart.

Welcome to me and my podcast, "Sifting Sounds". I have a podcast it seems, this is it, and there was me thinking it was nothing more than a mixtape.

It's a collection of bits and bobs which I've recorded and uploaded and attempted to sort into 'playlists' of a kind. It even includes a couple of cover songs from way back in another life, though there won't be many of those I assure you.

So, what about me then, I'm a scribbler and snapper, rhymer and worder, blogger and poet, writer of words, thinker of thoughts, a watcher, a listener, a yogalect, an otterer, an experimental gentleman, a distraction, an anthropophobe not renowned for my social skills... and finally, a coffee-addict.... and tea.

Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
