En suspension, légères, de longues traînées de brume,
Et dans les nids, blottis, des petits tas de plumes.

Un pâle soleil d’or froid peine à percer l’éther.
Bientôt la neige viendra pour couronner l’hiver.

Il avance lentement, froissant les feuilles mortes
Sur la terre glaiseuse où son chemin le porte.

S’il a le dos courbé, ce n’est que pour mieux voir
Plus près, dans les fossés, son reflet en miroir,
Ses longs cheveux bouclés, enténébrés de nuit,
Et le regard perçant qui n’appartient qu’à lui.
Il l’avait oublié, croyait l’avoir perdu,
Dans les rues de la ville d’où il vient, les mains nues.

Ils y sont des centaines, terrés dans la misère,
Même pas compagnons, chacun pour soi, qui errent,
Se traînent d’heure en heure pour se garder en vie.

Il a eu un sursaut, et l’instinct de survie
L’a guidé sur la route. Ici tout n’est pas gris.

Des feuilles flamboyantes de jaunes et de rouge
