I've always loved Richard Tee and sometimes when I improvise I try to move toward his really hard to imitate gospel purity. I never quite get there but it's a fun push in a different direction and intentionally trying to move around triads and really pure kinds of harmonies. This is basically an 8 bar or so melodic chunk inspired by my first dog, a sweet, awesome soul, and after about that many bars, it can be pretty different every time as I fill in the blanks different ways. (Still miss my old buddy Watson though...)

This is the second movement of a piece I wrote called
"Quartet for Button Reeds and Strings". 
Inspired by works such a Beethoven's Op. 132 and the works
of Samuel Barber and Charles Ives, this chamber work was written in 2013.

So - after the Ornetc. gigs at Skylight, the place turns into a bona fide dance club. We generally save our most 'extreme' material for the end and thus the people pining to dance early & often generally get a good snootful of free jazz. Since this piece always starts off with a drum solo, I attempted (not very successfully) some sort of compromise...

Ornette Disko Fantasy: T&T - Lonely Woman

Recorded Nov. 2008 by Ullas Fowler & Dahvin Bugas at this little (now defunct) studio next door to the GiG Performance Space. This is some improvised-but-grooving material with a strong early 70s fusion thing going on.
