Like most other DJs, DJ Lex started small.  Private gigs (disc jockey shorthand for an event that's not open to the public) like weddings and baby showers marked the career of the young novice.  For DJs who've taken a different route, it's easy to write off a sweet 16 or bridal shower.  The experience gained at these events however, is essential to any DJs trade.  Dealing with desperate song requests, drunken uncles and carrying heavy equipment in and out of vehicles translates into the club world, particularly pushy club patrons and bossy owners or promoters.  And so, after 4 years of small scale events, a battle-tested Lex ventured into the club world.

In 2006, DJ Lex joined a group of DJs and soundmen under the LosTraficante.com umbrella.  As a member of an entourage, Lex observed his fellow LTP DJs work in clubs; it was this group of experiences that strengthened his desire to become a working club DJ.  A year later, Kenny Cole made arrangements to have Lex perform at a club for the first time. Lex' club debut was parlayed into a weekly club residency, no small feat in New York City clubs.  2008 brought Lex a larger, more popular venue to control: Maracas.  The Queens hotspot combines the hottest live bands with DJs like Lex and Eli.  Bigger clubs mean bigger promotion; Lex' name started to be branded in patrons' and promoters' minds alike, and he found himself being booked more and more.

Club DJing is a combination of things: talking, mixing and song selection.  The latter can prove a challenge in an era where digital formats are easily traded, and so-called exclusives hold their unshared glamour for the briefest of moments.  Classics are classics, and songs of the moment are a must.  But in an effort to keep one's sets exclusives, many DJs make personal edits of songs to play out.  Some edits are laughable, others pointless; a truly effective edit must sound good, be well produced and fit in to a set, not only for the DJ but also for the dancer.  DJ Lex' beginner edits used a program with the perjorative moniker "Virtual DJ".  Using the oft-maligned platform, he made simple reggaeton blends (placing one instrumental track together with an acapella track to make what some call a "mash-up") that worked surprisingly well.  Not limiting himself to nightclubs, Lex distributed his edits and blends on various internet forums, and as time passed his recognition grew.

Like any successful person, DJ Lex' can trace his arrival on the edit scene to a single event; his edit of Omega's "Chambonea" had many a DJ inquiring about it's origin and producer.  With the heavily requested merengue track finely edited, it found it's way into most latin DJs record boxes.  There were more edits to come: these simple and efficient edits garnered Lex a meeting with club edit heavyweight DJ Lil'JayRemix. So what do you do when you're new on the scene, but heralded?  What does popularity and name recognition lead to?  Will DJ Lex start strong and finish even stronger?  Find out for yourself.

Allow me to introduce myself: I’m DJ Solo Remix.

As a versatile DJ, I play every genre of music; music other DJs do not dare to mix. I love pushing music past the limit of the ordinary, combining genres that take the musical experience past the normal boundaries—and the crowds are never disappointed.

Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, I jumped behind the turntables at a time when DJing was becoming an art form. Legends like Grandmaster Flash and DJ Kool Herc took the standard role of the DJ to a higher level and transported the crowds with new, explosive sounds. It was an exciting time to be a young DJ with no limits on what I could do with vinyl. Later on the scene were two other DJs, Little Louie Vega and Jellybean Benitez, who would influence the type of music that would become my forte: Freestyle and House. Through them I saw the hard work and dedication needed to become a master mixer. I believed with the same dedication to my craft, I could become as strong of a performer, pushing beats, people flowing to my sounds. It worked.

Word about my DJ performances spread: I went from performing at block parties to weddings to finally getting my first gig at The Bridge, a club in Spanish Harlem, NYC. That move opened doors to other venues around New York City. Soon thereafter, I was afforded the opportunity to work with a variety of Freestyle artists: George Lamond, Coro, TKA, Judy Torres, Brenda K. Starr, Stevie B., CNR (of Trilogy), and Safire—among others.

When it came to House: Jungle House, Electronica, Disco House, Latin House; it was all under my domain. I continue to enjoy infusing heart pounding, afro-Latino beats into Electronica or blending R&B with Jungle House to mixing Hip Hop and House. My eclectic style can also bridge Bollywood with House or Dance. Salsa with a larger instrumental background. Reggeaton. I love experimenting with different beats, making conventional music spin into the uniquely extraordinary.

Currently, I am the Vice President of Events and Promotion at NiteLine Radio, the #1 Internet Radio station in the New York tri-state area. I am an official member of Boriqua Posse/Rare Arts as well as Top Gun Elite DJs and Platinum DJs.
My work doesn't end there. I collaborate with various non-profit organizations such as Relay For Life, Toys For Tots, and Strides. For the past four years, I have DJ’d for the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade. I was touted the “2012 Bronx DJ of the Year” by the Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee. I continue to do live shows, solo projects, collaborations, and DJing for various NiteLine Radio shows.
