1 Rule to Lead the Field in Uncertain Times

One of the primary principles of real leadership is being uber-nice. Wildly empathetic. Staggeringly compassionate. The nicest (and best person you know). 

Why? Because leadership (and business/life) is all about people. Human connections. Social equity. Emotional bonds between you and your stakeholders (the people you work with/your customers/suppliers and the community you serve).

Our world says that if you are a leader, in many ways, it’s about what you get. What I’m going to suggest to you with deep respect is: “Being a leader is about what you give.” 

It’s a paradox because as you give more you actually receive more.

The Power of Kind

There can be no success without failure. It's just part of the process. The companies and people who have reached the heights of success are the same ones who have failed the most. 

You need to fail to win. And the faster you fail, the more quickly you’ll learn precisely what you need to do to win.  So Fail Fast. Outfail the competition. Outfail the person you once were.

Failure is Fuel for Success [If You Choose So]

Given that we cannot go outside and travel as well as we could before March, I passionately encourage you to use this period to go within.

Imagine taking the next 6 months to read transformational books, heal old wounds, upgrade your primary skills and plan out your next 20 years with ultra-clear intimacy. 

Reading a book is having a conversation with the author. Pick up the right one, and you put it down - forever changed.

Read The Heroic Books

A simple idea to get you to your next level: to earn more you must learn more. As you learn what the best do, you will develop new awareness. With better awareness, you can make better choices. And with better choices, you are certain to see better results. Investing in learning is the smartest investment you’ll ever make.

Please don’t tell me you are too busy to spend at least 60 minutes a day learning. Some of the busiest people I know read or listen to CDs or do online training for at least an hour a day. A lot of people are too busy being busy. Shift from being busy to getting results.

So take the first step today. Rather than watching TV tonight, make the time to read. Learn what the superstars in your profession do to stay on top. Learn how to create greater wellness in your life. Learn how to master your time. Learn how to live your greatest life.

Impact belongs to the misfits.

The brave and eclectic souls who see possibility amid naked negativity. The ones who chase down their loftiest ambitions with a stubborn faith in their greatest ideals—in the face of noisy trolls telling them what can’t be done.

The more you own your power and develop the exceptional confidence that comes with making your fantasies real, the bigger your dreams will get. And when that happens, even more people will think you’re weird. And foolish. And wrong.

Those who condemn you are locked in their limited beliefs and terrified of their own bigness.

And so they know not what they do.

Their criticism is awesome soil within which to grow your faith in yourself. And your ironclad trust in your finest instincts. Bless them rather than cursing them. For they are helping your rise.

The Misfit's Manifesto

Everyone does the best they can based on where they’re at. Once you get this insight, you’ll be less upset with hurtful people and more forgiving.

To carry anger within you over what someone did to you is to degrade your creativity, productivity and serenity. Being mistreated is nothing more than a training camp to build your strength to forgive.

And to forgive really is to be strong and powerful versus weak. So, forgive. Today. Please.

I do appreciate that this is easier written than done. Yet this fact doesn’t reduce the value of my encouragement to get great at this skill.
