Improvisation on the theme of pursuing happiness somewhere, only to end up finding it at home.

𝚆𝚃𝙿𝟷

Kusarikku (bull-man) is known from Mesopotamien art and is thought of as a guarding demon and a symbol for the protective sides of anger, fear and shame.  Thunderbird is depicted on North American totem poles of the indigenous people, its appearance is considered a great blessing. By legend, it makes both thunder and lightning and therefore is treated with awe.

There is a recurring, granular, shimmery sound, which I made with ffmpeg and python programming. This python program (a "granulator") basically turns ffmpeg into a granular synthesizer and produces lively effect modulations of sound patterns.

The artwork shows two interfering sine waves in each row. What can be seen are point clouds filled between both sine waves. The sine waves change through an inner and an outer paramter, starting from a simple red wave at the top, going to a more intricate violet wave, giving rise to an emerging pattern.

The artwork shows pairs of interfering sine waves, layered upon each other. What can be seen are point clouds filled between each pair of sines. The sine waves are modulated and a pattern is generated through a genetic algorithm, again using the artists choice as driving force.

Little Kong

This audiovisual artwork celebrates the beauty of mathematics. Making use of a stereographic projection, visual entities are beamed onto a sphere. Here they wiggle and wander around, until they glow away - only to be reborn again. Their dance is accompanied by a tune that is partly played on the piano, partly generated interactively with a genetic algorithm. The latter works by generating random sounds, which are selected by the artist, then recombined and mutated into a new generation of sounds. This goes on until sounds emerge that please the artist. Written, played and produced by Robin to Roxel between January and March, 2023. We are very grateful for our newborn son. When I was on parental leave, I sometimes played piano for him for hours, as he would calm down and listen peacefully. I set out to develop this longform mainly just playing piano.
