Mirage Saloon (Chaotix)

Another something I've wanted to remix for years. 
I won't deny Sonic Heroes is a mediocre game but the final level is one of my favorites in the series, with incredible music to boot.

This remix went through a number of different phases. I initially had it composed as a faster-paced metal remix, but I wasn't happy with the drum kits I was using. My next rework sounded similar to the final product, but I was using a LOT more synthesized material. The final rendition stripped a lot of the synths away and that's when I included the Genesis/Mega Drive soundfont and backing drum kits.

The final render was very problematic. Fruity Soundfont Player is, and to be kind, deceitful. It fails to render soundfonts at the same quality than it plays in the actual DAW. Not to mention rendering the track took around 14 hours, which I had attempted twice and failed both times. I looked extensively for a third-party (and cheap) soundfont player (DirectWave does not work with my Genesis soundfont) and I found a good open-source one (called Take1) that worked wonders and included many more ways to EQ the samples. While I spent a lot of time reworking the sampling, I extended the ending (with the choir and arpeggio that you now hear as it fades out).

This ended up being a lot more ambitious than I had intended but in all honesty it was the technical issues that pushed me to make this track better and better.

Total working time was around twenty hours.
