This song began more than a year ago, when Josh created a song out of a looper beat with his four string fretless bass. It sat on the shelf until a few weeks ago, when he shared it with JJ, who was in creative mode one Saturday evening. Josh had actually forgotten that he'd added a bass line to it, and thought he was just passing on a looper beat for JJ to play with.
However, JJ heard it, and was so excited that added his magical electric piano part, making it sound like a real song, instead of just drums and a bass. Ken also heard some magic in here, because he came up with his own brilliant beat to replace the looper that was used in for the seed. Mark was next to throw in, adding the striking drum pattern breakdown, and the thrilling flute solo, as well. Tez came in shortly after, adding his thrilling guitar to the mix. After everyone had added their parts, Josh came back and added two guitar parts, the simple low end line, as well as the high strummed triads. At this stage, Mark did some editing, as it is in his skill set, and made it less dense and easier to listen to.
Now that the song was musically complete, out newest member, Carl, dropped the amazing vocals you hear, singing his original lyrics. After Carl was done sprinkling his magic in it, we needed an able producer to bring out the magic of the recordings. Good thing we have a trained producer to do the job in Stephen, who mixed and mastered it superbly, as always.
This is Eclectic Collective's first fore into the afrobeat genre, although a few of us are really big fans already, and Josh has a few other originals in this genre buried on his page, as well. As always, we all enjoyed the process of hearing this one come together. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

LOST VILLAGE

Super impressed by my buddy @dough-factory 's rhyming skills on here! This one started out as a beat from Ryan, I added trippy synth, organ and guitar noodling then sent back to him. He mixed, arranged and added the killer vocals as well as some record skips that add a nice touch.

Under the Greenwood Tree (Roger Quilter - with Helen Roberts)

This is a re-upload of a track that was recorded a few years ago.  It was originally recorded in 2023, and it consists of 3 different segments of sitar and drum jams spliced together with subsequent sitar and bass tracks added after.  Drums were played by Mick Mack, sitar and bass by Gremescer Fuckburger.  I generally like the way it turned out, but I always wished I had tuned the sitar better before recording.  I have edited this track a bit to fix some of the tuning issues, but there is only so much I can do.  Either way, I hope you enjoy.

This is the latest in our series of songs Carl has written about us. Being as both Tez, a lifelong, and to a lesser degree, Carl are Manchester United fans, Carl siezed on the opportunity to celebrate their shared fandom. Although the lyrics are a little inscrutable to us Americans, we love that football (soccer) fans from across the pond will know exactly what he's talking about. 
  Carl wrote this song on his acoustic guitar, and upon sharing it with us, we weren't sure as to the direction we wanted to take it. JJ threw down first, adding his good-time-sounding upright piano and strikingly beautiful organ to the mix first. Enchanted with Carl's composition, Josh next added his bass and mandolin both in the same recording session, without even closing his DAW. Mark was in right after, adding his friendly fiddle solo as well as fiddle fills throughout. Being as the song is about him, Tez came along shortly after and added the tuneful intro and outro on his guitar. Then, as it was just about to sit for a while, Ken added his very tasteful, perfect drums to the mix, thus completing the rhythm section. 
  Before we put a bow on it, though, Stephen made it back from his week in the Colorado wilderness in time to add his magical banjo to the mix. Speaking of mixes, now it was time for one, and we turned it over to him, our in house pro, to do the honors.
  We all really enjoyed working on this one. It is an example of Eclectic Collective taking one of Carls songs and having our way with it. Always a team effort getting it over the line, but we always manage to do it. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

The whole idea of embracing melancholic music as a package for me is an incredible therapy and has been since I was a very young. Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber, Inspector Morse Theme Tune by Barrington Pheloung and Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone would be the three big examples that come to mind. The first two in particular... Then a more popular example from that period of my life would be All by Myself by Eric Carmen. That sits up there as a brave wtf song that's just incredible in it's vulnerability. More recently Id put Exit Music for a Film by Radiohead in a similar beautiful mind bending melancholic box.

The song image is a picture of a sunrise over my back wall and in the foreground is the micro world we never really see. It's moss growing on the wall and for me it represents visually, perspective is everything. We can't see the world like an ant does unless we get in amongst the weeds and get close to look. Even then it's difficult to share the same point of view an ant has.
I guess that can be an analogy of where your soul goes in the land of melancholic music. Although it can invoke feelings of sadness I think that's therapeutic for our overall beings. I think maybe psychologically, like a poem can do also, we are reflecting our emotion with something words as plain language cannot fully explain but where sound and poetry maybe can do a better job of helping them materialise for you. So they become a solidarity of sorts for those hard to understand feelings we all feel from time to time in our lives. A safe reference that maybe forces you to feel them instead of oppressing the feelings

"Sotto le stelle del Jazz" was written by Paolo Conte in 1983, and released on his third eponymous album.
