This is the very first mix that we have made together!  We recorded it after another great year at Burning Man.

What a burn! So much dust this year!!! But also so much love. This mix is inspired by our beautiful friends all across the playa.  We shared so many special moments with you all - from cruising the playa with the Disco Knights to dancing in the dust at Panda Lounge to playing for sunset at Atlantis. Special thanks to camp Common Ground for providing us with such a lovely home!

"My favorite set that we played this year at Burning Man was at Robot Heart. It was probably the only set that I really prepared for with Walshy Fire.

I'll be honest I was a lil nervous because I really wanted to make it run with energy for the full two hours and our typical audience isn't that used to a classic dub and reggae set. Myself and the whole RH crew wanted to create something really special for a sunset party and keep it true to the theme but to still feel like a Robot Heart set. The Robot Heart crew had told me that they wanted and entire set that sounded like "Major Lazer - Get Free" and I had to think hard about it. To keep the vibe going for two hours and for that record to be the climax was a challenge but I realized if you stick to your guns for the whole party and steer the audience in a direction and keep them with you, then anything is possible.  I hope you love it.. It's perfect for a party on a Sunday afternoon and represents a different side of Major Lazer"

The sunrise on Sunday morning after The Burn was perhaps the coldest I'd experienced at Burning Man.   By the time I went on at 7am only the slightest hint of the sun's warmth began to grace us, but the effect was immediate.  My instincts steered me into an uplifting, psychedelic house sound and the vibe was as loose and festive as one could imagine.  Playing out there in Deep Playa on the Robot Heart bus never fails to be one of the most unique DJ experiences I've known.

In 2013 Daniel Bortz released his debut album 'Patchwork Memories', an 11-track selection of deep cuts bleeding with melancholy, black keys and nostalgia. Bortz's laser-precision production skills were in full flight here, and his ability to use very little elements to fill out each track is the work of a serious professional. The album was filled with the sort of low-slung house which could easily double up as a downtempo soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon. Look into his back catalogue you will find that his debut album was no anomaly: his discography is loaded with brooding melodies and infectious rhythms. As you can expect, he follows the same route in the club where Bortz tend to favour the cuts which make you feel as much as dance. Of late, the German has been injecting a darker sound into his DJ sets which might come as a surprise to those who know him for his 'deep house', but Perlon is one of his favourite labels, and that influence is definitely starting to become more relevant in his productions. (This should come as no surprise, the back catalogue of his Pastamusik imprint is loaded with his appreciation for the microhouse/minimal techno label) On the verge of an Australian tour (dates at bottom of article), Bortz has delivered the next Balance Selections podcast. It's safe to say that you are in good hands...
