Deep Jesus has always had a cult following amongst our family.  Two and a half years years ago at our very first Desert Hearts Festival, we faced one of the most extreme weather weekends of our lives. The week leading up to the event we watched the forecast go from perfect weather all week to 20 degree lows with high winds during the weekend. The first two days of the event had a very radical survival aspect to the whole thing.  But oddly enough, it was that need for survival that brought our original crew together in the way that it did. It united our group of relative strangers and turned us into a family.  When Deep Jesus played the very first Desert Hearts sunrise on Sunday morning, it was like the party gods descended from heaven to reward us for making it through the weekend. 

Fast forward to our 2 year Anniversary and it was like reliving our first party all over again. Let Deep Jesus guide you through a spiritual sunrise journey early Saturday morning at Los Coyotes Indian Reservation.

An amazing invite to teach the opening ceremony yoga class and Sunday morning decompression yoga class at the 2015 Dirtybird Campout in SoCal.  About 100 in attendance, including Sir Claude Von Stroke himself!!  No mat, hiking Boots, full Camp Leader outfit, zero f*cks. SO AMAZING.  
First recording was slightly rushed, so I rerecorded a cleaner version, only one track has been removed from the original set.
Again, tempos and volumes change to give space for yoga and instruction.

Off and up we go, left and right and topsy turvy into the the 16th episode of our podcast series. Nicola’s productions are gateways into spheres of twinkling melodies, timeless wormholes and shining percussions. His sound could be described as a jittering wave of melancholia, wrapped in eclectic rhythms of longing and stardust.

Rolandson - er selbst bezeichnet sich als »Kind der Ostsee« und ist sowohl in Schweden/Uppsala als auch in der Hansestadt Rostock verwurzelt. Aktuell lebt der sympathische 38-Jährige im beschaulichen Halle an der Saale. Sein Herz, so viel verrät er über sich, schlägt für so viele wundervolle Dinge, die er auf seinen Reisen gesehen und kennengelernt hat, sodass er sich selbst als einen Reisenden versteht, der »seine Gedanken und Gefühle zu Bildern formt und diese dann hin und wieder in Mixtapes verpackt«. Seine Sets reflektieren so oftmals einen Teil seiner ganz eigenen Gedanken- und Gefühlswelt, ein durchaus tiefer und persönlicher Einblick, den er uns jedoch gerne gewährt, denn: »Dessen Werk wird Bestand haben, der nicht darauf aus war zu gefallen, sondern dem nur eines am Herzen lag: wahr zu sein. « (Jean Cocteau)

Seit gut 20 Jahren legt er nun schon auf und verzaubert die Hörer mit seinen unglaublichen Sets, in denen er sich gerne mal selbst verliert. Somit will kein Genrestempel an Ihm haften bleiben, keine musikalische Schublade so recht passen und genau das zeichnet Ihn musikalisch wie menschlich aus: Klischees vermeiden und dafür stets mit musikalischer Offenheit und Vielschichtigkeit auf sich aufmerksam machen.

Wenn er nicht gerade hinter den Decks steht, dann kümmert er sich mit jeder Menge Herzblut und einer ordentlichen Portion Leidenschaft um sein Projekt, den Seasidetrip Podcast, das er bereits 2012 ins Leben rief. Erwachsen aus dem ersten Mixtape, seinem »Seasidetrip – the arrival«, das während seines Aufenthalts auf dem Darß, also tatsächlich am Meer, entstand, schaffte er es, andere Künstler mit dem wunderbaren Grundgedanken dieser Podcastreihe anzustecken und dafür zu begeistern. Bekannte und unbekannte Musiker haben so und bis heute ihre Gedanken und Gefühle, welche die Liebe und Sehnsucht zum Meer widerspiegeln, in Musik übersetzt und diese – frei von Vorgaben und Zwängen – in einem Mix verpackt. Und so wächst sein selbst definiertes »liebevolles Kleinod im Zirkus Universum« zu einem ganz zauberhaften Projekt heran, das nicht nur die Künstler in ihrem Schaffen vereint, die Hörerschaft wieder und wieder auf atemberaubende musikalische Reisen entführt, sondern auch intensive Freundschaften und inspirierende Kooperationen wachsen und gedeihen lässt. - Das ist Rolandson und er lädt jede und jeden dazu ein, mit ihm die Welt ein bisschen bunter zu machen.

"While I’ve made many early morning expeditions to Robot Heart, this was my first adventure playing the famous bus. It was a bespoke musical experience and a true honor to play and become part of the family. Dust storms had been blowing amok that night, so many parties had been cancelled; yet so many fabulous people came out to dance and make it an unforgettable party.

My sound explores the spaces between groovy & psychedelic. I always try to bring a deeper experience to the dance floor without taking things too seriously. I want people to experience a heightened connection with the music, but most importantly just laugh and have a good time. I hope that vibe shines through in this recording. Much love."
