Experiencing Burning Man for the first time and playing at White Ocean, facing the desert and distant mountains while the sun was setting was definitely a highlight of my year. In that surreal setting in front of a new crowd I took the opportunity to showcase my own music, new and old, so apart from track 2 & 3 this set consists only of my music. Big thanks to White Ocean for welcoming my Swedish folky and playful grooves! Enjoy..........

Crussen - White Ocean Sunset - Burning Man 2016

Where to start . . . ?! This second Burning Man experience was indescribable. 
Filled with serendipitous moments, my week was as magical as it could have been.

Robot Heart was the last of the seven shows I played and certainly one I was looking forward to the most. Why? Because I was given the opportunity to play an extended set. Pretty damn special isn't it?!

It's 7.30AM, Saturday after man burn, I wake up all dusty in my yurt after playing through a mad storm at White Ocean from 3 to 5AM hoping for the weather to have settled a little. I walk outside and guess what . . . 
it is a complete white out!!! 

Putting all the good will I have out there, I decide to jump on my bicycle and ride out to the deep playa to find the bus. The wind is very strong and the visibility so low that I literally get thrown off it. I desperately start walking, like a blind man, following whatever sound I can hear. Slowly losing hope, I eventually run into a bunch of white walkers on the same mission. I realise time is running low as I have lost all sense of direction. My skepticism increases, yet my ears magically take me to the Heart just before the start of my agreed set time - 8.30AM. Monolink is performing live in front of a bunch of troopers. I get informed that performances have slightly been delayed due to weather conditions. The sky gets darker by the minute. The crew warns me that rain had been forecasted and that music would have to be turned off for safety reasons in case of another storm. I then realise that my set could just get canceled. Sad face. I pray the weather gods for mercy.
As I get on, the sky magically clears. No more wind, barely any clouds, no more dust. My nightmare turns into a dream and my journey on the decks begins.

I hope you’ll appreciate and enjoy the spontaneity of this set.

Ursa Major
Reaching to grab what is within her grasp is Ursa Major, a 14 foot tall, grizzly bear sow. She may simply be reaching for berries but perceivably she is reaching higher: to the northern sky and the constellation that is her name, Ursa Major. In navigation, the constellation is useful in pointing the way to the North Star.  Ursa Major’s pose is inspiring, she brings the gaze and hopes of the participant skyward. She also demonstrates respect for the bears and nature, her pose is not like a taxidermy bear. She is in her natural state and unthreatening.  With a durable, unique material that was used on their previous Burning Man project (Penny the Goose), Ursa Major’s fur will be made of US and Canadian pennies. The pattern and feel will be like fur.

Her music, her style, and everything about Öona is fascinating and it's been an absolute pleasure getting to know her over the years. We knew we had to bring her into the Desert Hearts Family after an extended time hanging with her at Pile Palace in 2016. We wanted to give her a time slot that allowed her to flex her musical versatility and we knew there's no better time to spread those wings than Sunday sunrise. "Der Jungbrunnen" is our latest platform to feature the next generation of talented artists... 
Our second protagonist is @chu-chi-gong from Kollektiv @schoene_toene, Frankfurt, Germany

Chuchi ist Teil des Kollektivs Schöne Töne aus Frankfurt. Ihre Musikauswahl ist vielfältig, speziell und entschleunigend... Obwohl sie erst seit einem knappen Jahr hinter dem DJ-Mischpult steht, konnte sie schon auf einigen schönen Orten glänzen: Solo oder mit ihrem Kollektiv wurde sie im ★ Kabinett der Kuriositäten ★ auf dem TropenTango sowie Hoppla in Kassel, CASSIOPEIA in Darmstadt und dem Фузион-Festival gesehen. Auch bei uns oder bei den Kollegen vom F U C H S B A U • M A I N Z sorgte sie immer wieder für schöne Töne;) Gerade jetzt macht sie eine kleine Baby-Pause und konnte in dieser Zeit diesen Mix für unsere Jungbrunnen-Reihe zusammenstellen. Robot Bennett in the HAMMAHALLE, Sisyphos, Berlin on Thursday 3rd January 2019. This three hour set was a small part of the amazing New Year's five day non-stop event – Völlig Verstrahlt (consummately contaminated).

Robot Bennett – “Book me before I die”

How many people do you know who take up DJing in their late 60s?  And how many are actually really good? The answer is one – Robot Bennett.

The Robot is a wonderful, incredible anomaly. His love of electronic music stretches back to the early 90’s, when he tasted first hand the fabled golden era of techno clubs in Berlin where he has lived since 1982. He was at the Loveparade. He danced in the warehouses and basements, revelled at the festivals, and absorbed all of this influence from one side of the equation.

A lifelong musician, he balanced his passion alongside a career as a body therapist and yoga teacher. During a group breath work session he was playing one of his own techno mixes and a club booker just happened to be part of the group. The booker was so impressed by Robot's mix that he suggested he try his hand at DJ'ing. It was the spark that lit the bonfire.

Robot Bennett uses Ableton Live with an APC 40 Mk II controller for DJ'ing.

He plays hard techno – a dark and sometimes ominous sound interspersed with some lighter tunes and the occasional vintage track.

Robot Bennett also plays 60’s and early 70’s classic psychedelic rock. He has enjoyed playing the music of his youth at Nation of Gondwana, Hans & Gloria, Mensch Meier, Rummelsbucht, Bucht der Träumer and at New Years parties in Sisyphos.
