Number five of eight in the Trigram series. Raw, unadulterated tribal bass music with a deep roots foundation. This is the sound of Trigram.

JahYu: the Korean word for ‘freedom’, this is an artist whose music is rooted in the notion of freedom, freedom of sound, freedom of expression, freedom from mind and freedom of the soul. JahYu uses his creative freedom to connect with his ancestors and create music that somehow transports the listener through time and space. Oriental flute and string melodies slide effortlessly amongst powerful roots-based dubstep, creating a sound that is unique and full of flavour. This enigmatic Korean-German producer blends both sides of his heritage, the digital steppers that emerged from Europe in the 1990’s alongside the traditional oriental music of his mother’s homeland, Korea, augmented by a deeper exploration of contemporary bass music. It is said that JahYu’s family descend from the same lineage of Go Jumong, the founder of the great Goguryeo Kingdom of the Far East, a people renown for their ancestral worship and unique musical expression. Goguryeo music was even adopted as official court music for the powerful Sui and Tang dynasties of China, many times throughout history these Chinese dynasties were at war with Goguryeo, however, the music of the enemy, Goguryeo, was still able to flourish in China and has been consistently performed across Asia for hundreds of years. Perhaps this explains the majestic qualities of JahYu’s music. JahYu’s productions provide us with the opportunity to discover our ancestral roots through music. Roots music is not a sound, it is a feeling and a feeling that JahYu is able to evoke with profound intensity.

Reggae Roast has built some serious momentum recently especially after the unveiling of their brand new, hand-crafted soundsystem, a series of critically acclaimed releases and sell out shows across the UK & Europe. As a result they are slowly establishing themselves as one of the top Reggae outfits in the world. To celebrate they are proud to release what is set to be one of the big tunes of summer 2016, ‘Weed Anthem’, from two of their longest collaborators, Adam Prescott & Donovan Kingjay.

There’s no doubt about it, ‘Weed Anthem’ is set to be one of the big Ganja tunes for 2016, yet another home grown slice of hard hitting digital Roots that the Reggae Roast label has become synonymous with. Donovan Kingjay’s love for the ‘magical plant’ is backed by Adam Prescott’s heavy take on the ‘Hot Milk’ riddim which features hints of Johnny Clarke’s ‘Legalise It’ too. Add to that a dubbed out version on the flip featuring Augustus Pablo’s son, Addis Pablo, and you’ve got a red hot, smoking release primed and ready for the Soundsystem.

Although born in London, singer Donovan Kingjay spent his formative years in Lucea, Hanover JA, before he returned to the UK, where he began his musical education. Encouraged by King Original's Wazir alongside Michael Palmer, Philip 'Fatis' Burrell and Sugar Minott, he realised his potential as a recording artist and all round Soundsystem entertainer. Now a Reggae Roast regular, Donovan is touring the world spreading his conscious message of Peace, Love & Unity.

Adam Prescott has quickly established himself as one of the key players in the re-emergence of British Reggae, with first class original songs featuring the likes of Cornel Campbell, Michael Prophet, Sugar Minot, Ranking Joe, Rod Taylor & Johnny Osbourne to name but a few. Add to that consistent play on BBC Radio One & Rinse FM & huge support from Sir David Rodigan, featuring Adam on his ‘Best Of British’ show on 1Xtra, Adam is becoming one of the hottest prospects in the revival of soundsystem music.

With a full year of crucial releases scheduled and soundsystem sessions booked worldwide, 2016 is set to be one of the best years so far for Reggae Roast so keep them eyes peeled!
