Label mainstays Fouk just dropped the perfect dancefloor Bomb with ‘Mirage’ paired with a high-octane Elisa Bee remix 

We all know Dutch duo Fouk from their soulful, bouncy take on house music. They’re also responsible for some of Heist’s biggest tracks like Kill Frenzy or their Lil Louis inspired 2021 release ‘Blue Steel’. On their new EP, the talented duo shows us a fresh side of their sound: the main-room hands-in-the-air-going-wild side. To top things off, Italian producer Elisa Bee made time in her busy schedule of DJ’ing and releasing for artists like Ben Sims on his Hardgroove imprint and Unknown to the Unknown to deliver a killer remix of the title track. 

Fouk’s return to Heist after 3 years is a welcome one and with ‘Mirage’, they might just have given us their biggest house track in their decade spanning career. The track is built around a stuttering synth loop and a seductive female vocal chanting ‘What made you wanna…” The real star here is the bassline, which propels the track into a seriously infectious groove. Add some lush strings and moody changeovers and you’ve got yourself a full-blown dancefloor weapon. Mirage has been a staple in Dam Swindle’s sets for the past months and has been one of their set highlights ever since.

“Coffee” is one for the classic Fouk fans. It’s got lovely Rhodes, a joyous combination of whoo’s, snare-rolls and synth hits grooving on top of an infectious orchestral background loop. “Tapioca” is a hybrid latin-electronic groove that builds on punchy synths, live percussion and drunk keys to balance the energy of the track. 

Elisa Bee’s remix of ‘Mirage’ is an intense percussive workout that builds on a breakbeat loop and a rave-bassline. The tempo is turned up a notch or 2 and that stutter synth and vocal of the original make this remix a wild warehouse affair.

Closing track of the EP is ‘Abalone’; A lovely bleep-house affair that still has a bit of that warehouse vibe. It’s got the perfect amount of distortion the drums while keeping things dreamy with some face-melting pads throughout the track.

Jimpster delivered some great releases in 2023, most notably his Natural Child collab EP with Crackazat as well as his Tribute EP featuring South African vocalist Mavhungu including heavy Osunlade remixes. He also produced some of his best remixes to date including Thakzin’s Don’t Let Me See, Blaze’s Wonderland and Detroit Rising’s Rocket Love. It’s always a good day to announce a new Jimpster EP on Freerange and with two captivating originals plus a stunning Atjazz remix you’re in for a treat!

Next up we have The Passion which builds a deep and jazzy mood around a 4 bar piano progression whilst the sampled interviewee gives his insight into how he maintains his passion for music. London based trumpet player KingCrowney adds some lovely horn parts, emphasising the jazz feel to compliment the spoken word.

O Sótão Records is thrilled to announce the label debut of Lisbon-based producer and DJ, sometimes jah, with the five-track EP, Le Grenier. The story behind the EP is a happy accident of shared musical taste. "I stumbled upon sometimes jah's music online, drawn in by the jazzy elements, lively instrumentation, and sublime sample use," explains Francisco Esp., head of O Sótão Records. "After learning he was based in Lisbon, I reached out on a whim, and to my surprise, João (sometimes jah) was super-open!” Aptly named after O Sótão (Portuguese for "attic" or "grenier" in French), the EP is a trip through textures of deep, jazzy, and groovy house music, twisting and turning at a high pace. The heat outside simmers down, the night falls and you can feel the excitement of another summer season…

While currently based in Madrid, João's musical journey began in his hometown of Lisbon. Inspired by the sounds of the 90s, listening to his parents jam out with friends, these are deeply rooted in his records. "I'm endlessly inspired by artists who infuse soul into house music," João explains. "It's an intangible quality, but when you hear it, it resonates. Maybe it's a beautiful jazz chord, or a bassline perfectly locked into the groove. That's the feeling I chase when I create."

It all comes down to that: inspiration is unpredictable. "I might even record myself humming a bassline on my phone to capture the idea. Then, I build a track around this inspiration, laying down drums, and then basslines, samples, or chords, and build off that.” Hardware synths and drum machines collected over the years add unique textures, and in the end, it's about finding the balance between adding flavors and keeping things simple.

Le Grenier features four original tracks primarily created in Portugal over the past six months, complemented by a remix of Llorca’s “Indigo Blues” classic. "Coming back from two years in Sydney, I instantly gravitated towards a more jazz-house sound," João explains. "Reuniting with my white Telecaster in Lisbon allowed me to improvise with guitars and create a more organic sound, evident in the first three tracks." The final track, "between the lines," explores a different sonic territory, showcasing João's experimentation with electronic instruments and synthesizers.

While Le Grenier marks an incredible debut record for sometime jah and a milestone for O Sótão Records, it’s just a glimpse into the artist’s boundless creativity. We believe you’ll hear more from him pretty soon.

Manakinz are Scottish duo James ‘Harri’ Harrigan and Max Raskin. Harri of is a hero of Scottish electronic music being one of the heads behind the renowned Subculture nights at Glasgow's temple to the underground the The Sub Club. Max is another Glasgow player, formerly of the Liquid Lounge and Sunday Circus. 

Their collaboration Manakinz has been building nicely over the last few years with some tight releases on Let’s Play House, Future Boogie, Monologues, Refuge and Mitchell Street.

The Whim! EP is their second on their own Model Citizenz imprint which they minted to host their vast back catalogue of music. To give you an idea of just how much music they are sitting on this EP hosts no less that 7 cuts all designed for open minded quality dancefloors in dark rooms.

Our premier today is Fall Into A Trance, a throbbing monster of a house track which with an every so noticable touch of French disco. It's all about the 'Fall Into A Trance' vocal hook which grabs the listener close with the aim of helping them into that Trance, all very meta and all ridiculously dope.

Jacking, sun-kissed but so breezy and fun, ‘Rain’ is a perfect example of Arturo’s sharp samplecraft and Phil Weeks’ ear for a perfect jacking gem. Drop this and watch the mood life like a shower on a muggy day; nothing gives life to a dance like a devilish sample. 
Beyond the ‘Rain’ comes every type of temperament; the woozy, unhurried Q&A of ‘Inserare’, the sexy sunset slinking ‘Be Someone’, the cloud-bouncing jazzy daydream ‘Free’ and the grand finale that is the thunderous ‘You Ain’t Talking’. Heavy in filtered funk, tense in its weight and stripped back elements; once again we find ourselves spellbound by Arturo’s less-is-more samplecraft command right until that final warped guitar wash. Phil Weeks is a house music purist. Whether DJing or producing, the Parisian with the huge personality delivers raw beats influenced in equal measure by
classic Chicago house and nu‐school French flair, underpinned with a hip‐hop attitude. His long running Robsoul Recordings also defines him as one of the
most skilled label heads in underground house music.
In the studio Phil is dedicated to classic hardware like Akai’s MPC 3000 sampler and Roland’s TR909 drum machine. He has released more than 250 tracks and
remixes since his debut in 2000, working with labels including 2020 Vision, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Detour, Adult Only and his own Robsoul, which
is responsible for the majority of his original output. 

Phil’s work can also be found in the collaborations Fries & Bridges (with Hector Moralez) and PS Project/Bubba Beats & Kid Piston (with DJ Sneak). Production highlights include Phil’s three albums ‘Love Affair’ (2011), ‘Yeah I Like That’ (2003) and ‘Raw Instrumental’ (2012), alongside style‐defining singles ‘Hypnose’, ‘It Put Me Well’ and ‘All Day Every Day’. The music has been
heavily supported by international dance press including achieving accolades such as MixMag’s and De‐Bug’s ‘Album Of The Month’, while DJs ranging from
Danny Howells and Yousef to Mark Farina and DJ Sneak consistently play his tracks. Behind the decks, Phil has racked up enough air miles to take him around the
world several times over, with appearances at the world’s leading house clubs ‐ Queen’s Club, Sankeys, Circus, Ministry of Sound, Back to Basics and Stereo are
all regular haunts, alongside his Paris residency ‘Get Underground’ at the infamous Rex Club.

Phil has also fully embraced the relationship with his fans and house music fans in general – whether through his popular ‘Underground Chronicles’ video diaries
on Youtube or his personal relationships on Facebook.
Despite his success Phil isn’t one to brag. To him it’s all about keeping proper house music alive. Which just goes to prove Phil Weeks is a house music purist.
