One of the most consistent new labels around, Cyphon Recordings, marks double figures with another standout release that gleans from the past but faces the future. This time they look to the talents of Emotive Technology, a new alias from Chilean Massiande who provides a five-track EP of machine-wielding, soul-rousing techno from across the spectrum. Although this may be the first release under his new moniker, Massiande has spent the last decade putting out productions with labels such as Housewax, Phonica, Freerange and Groovin. 
 
Firing on all cylinders from the get-go, ‘Rise’ kicks off the Walk Into The Light EP. A hyperspace melding of new beat, Italo and arp-operating techno that opens out into a slice of peak-time revelry. The swirling textures of ‘It’s On’follow, pushing you into the next dimension. A hypnotic, entrancing, and arresting heads-down powerhouse. Crunchy and considered it's the kind of strobe-stuttering basement jam that turns heads inside out. Two Detroit-leaning tracks ‘Your Zone’ and ‘Walk Into The Light’ are up next. The former is a heavyweight machine workout. Layered synth lines and crisp drum programming transfix, as that grooving low-end powers bodies into bedlam. The latter, a Motor-City-influenced tour de force. One that sees Massiande recode the circuitry to hit with a piano-laden stunner, balancing power and presence, with emotion and nuance.  Closing out ‘The Swing’ sucks you in deeper. A resonating world of synth stabs, pulsating bass lines and atmospheric electronics.
 
Walk Into The Light is machine music hardwired with a heavy sense of soul.

The composition "Melancholic Minute" was created sometime in March 2023 as a single, which I offered to Sofa Movements Records. In the spirit of a club atmosphere, the track reflects on whether it's okay to be melancholic at times. After a dynamic introduction to the composition a voice borrowed from the legendary HAL 9000 robot central to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001 Space Odyssey addresses you with the question. Is it okay to be melancholic? Interestingly, this voice was generated by artificial intelligence, adding a modern twist. The melody that follows will linger in your mind long after the first listen. I am grateful for all the remixes crafted by talented producers of our small club electronic scene (Slovakia)

Emanuele Barilli's new release, "Die Lampe," marks a milestone in his growth as a producer under the Aterral label. After two years with us, Emanuele's sound has evolved as a touring DJ in Europe. With 3 bangers in this release, he highlights his knack for crafting menacingly groovy basslines.

The title track, "Die Lampe," is intensely minimal. A thumping bass pulls you into a trance, with an ambience that keeps you locked to the dance floor. It's a perfect example of Emanuele's talent for reaching exceptionally high levels of energy whilst conforming to the boundaries of house. It feels like you are on a mission.

"Studio 3" offers a breath of fresh air with a playful melody and wonderfully placed chords. "Got A Muv" seals the release with a heavy dub. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kolter, it features a swoosh of chords with serious undertones alongside a relentless kick.

Phil Weeks is a house music purist. Whether DJing or producing, the Parisian with the huge personality delivers raw beats influenced in equal measure by
classic Chicago house and nu‐school French flair, underpinned with a hip‐hop attitude. His long running Robsoul Recordings also defines him as one of the
most skilled label heads in underground house music.
In the studio Phil is dedicated to classic hardware like Akai’s MPC 3000 sampler and Roland’s TR909 drum machine. He has released more than 250 tracks and
remixes since his debut in 2000, working with labels including 2020 Vision, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Detour, Adult Only and his own Robsoul, which
is responsible for the majority of his original output. 

Phil’s work can also be found in the collaborations Fries & Bridges (with Hector Moralez) and PS Project/Bubba Beats & Kid Piston (with DJ Sneak). Production highlights include Phil’s three albums ‘Love Affair’ (2011), ‘Yeah I Like That’ (2003) and ‘Raw Instrumental’ (2012), alongside style‐defining singles ‘Hypnose’, ‘It Put Me Well’ and ‘All Day Every Day’. The music has been
heavily supported by international dance press including achieving accolades such as MixMag’s and De‐Bug’s ‘Album Of The Month’, while DJs ranging from
Danny Howells and Yousef to Mark Farina and DJ Sneak consistently play his tracks. Behind the decks, Phil has racked up enough air miles to take him around the
world several times over, with appearances at the world’s leading house clubs ‐ Queen’s Club, Sankeys, Circus, Ministry of Sound, Back to Basics and Stereo are
all regular haunts, alongside his Paris residency ‘Get Underground’ at the infamous Rex Club.

Phil has also fully embraced the relationship with his fans and house music fans in general – whether through his popular ‘Underground Chronicles’ video diaries
on Youtube or his personal relationships on Facebook.
Despite his success Phil isn’t one to brag. To him it’s all about keeping proper house music alive. Which just goes to prove Phil Weeks is a house music purist.
