Hyped to premiere this summer-ready jam by Brighton's own Anushka. “Speak To Me” feels like electronically enhanced future soul for the dancers and roller skaters.

Out 25th March, “Speak To Me” follows “You My Love” - their first release with Brighton-based label Tru Thoughts – which received support from our favourite Jamz Supernova on BBC 1Xtra. Both songs are taken from their forthcoming album and first since their debut ‘Broken Circuit’, on Brownswood. 

Based around a loop written by producer Max Wheeler whilst on tour in Denmark, the lyrics for “Speak To Me” are a call to a higher power – the Eternal Mother - from singer/songwriter Victoria Port, born from feeling at one and safe in nature. “This song was written before I knew the name for Yemaya”, Victoria tells us. The Orisiha Yemaya is the Goddess of the Sea and protector of women in the Santeria/Yoruba religion. It is believed in Santeria that Yemaya guides and supports her children, helping them to grow; an ethos and energy that fuels the track from its core. 

Following the success of their debut, the duo have spent the last few years shedding themselves of unhelpful expectations, whilst developing an honest sound between soul and electronic music influenced by their love of breakbeat culture. 

The single drops on March 25th with a remix from West-London Broken-Beat revivalist, producer and DJ Danny Wheeler AKA WheelUP, recently premiered on the Beeb by GP, no less.

About Evolove:
Evolove is an amalgamation of the words 'evolve' and 'love.' The evolving musical structures in house, afrobeat, and jazz inspired Rotterdam talent Beau Zwart in the process of sculpting this EP. The idea of combining these different genres started out after a night of dancing on the couch with his girlfriend. After hours of dancing and flipping through different moods and genres, the concept of this EP was born. Born out of love (for dancing).  

Long-time label homie K15 delivers a deep take on For MXM in true London Brokenbeat fashion. Mysterious newcomer Lu-Lu brings an uplifting, summer-ready interpretation of the title track Evolove to complete Beau Zwart's second release on INI Movement. 

About Beau Zwart:
Rotterdam-based producer Beau Zwart had an early introduction to music, studying classical piano throughout his childhood. Amazed and inspired by the works of classical composers from older generations like Bernardt Herrmann & Ennio Morricone, he started to write his own compositions. In his teenage years, he discovered jazz and electronic music and implemented these worlds in his compositions, performances and DJ-sets.

Today, Beau is a producer, performer, DJ and sought-after film composer. He graduated in Music and Technology at the University of the Arts Utrecht, released several EP's on record labels like INI Movement, Fluid Funk, Midnight Riot Records, Boogie Cafe and his own imprint Narrative Identity. He performed at festivals like Noorderslag, Grasnapolsky and North Sea Jazz Round Town. Armed with an extensive collection of analog synths and drum computers, Beau strives to make complex music accessible and crosses borders between genres.

Conclave’s self-titled debut has been hailed as one of 2021’s best, described as “magnificent” by Resident Advisor, “a vibrant house album that beautifully celebrates rhythms, collaboration and musical history.” The brainchild of New York City-based vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cesar Toribio, it is that rarity in dance music: a conceptual project that never lets ideation (specifically, a celebration of the Afro-Latin clave rhythm as a transcendent musical key) impede its primary motive of putting bodies in motion.

Now with Conclave – The Remixes EP, four of Conclave’s finest tracks are imaginatively re-invented across five remixes by Photay, musclecars, Jenifa Mayanja and Mike Simonetti. The resulting sounds represent an extended play in the truest sense: a continuation of the spirit of Toribio’s explorations that adventurously takes the original compositions into welcome and unexpected territory.

Photay’s “All That I Need (Remix)” brilliantly sets the tone. Anchored by an irresistibly syncopated percussive line, it accumulates perfectly placed rhythmic layers and accents, then drops in Cesar and sister Sharin Toribio’s sparse vocals amidst touches of haunting modulating organ and Bernie Worrell-esque synth squeals, all while largely dispensing with traditional basslines. It’s an intoxicatingly moody (re-)arrangement, reflective of Photay’s uncanny ability to generate momentum and evoke stillness at once. And it’s reprised in a more stripped down iteration for his lovely Photay Lullaby Remix, which dials back the percussion and plays up a simple thumb piano melody from the song’s beautifully bridge for maximum emotional resonance.

Together these re-imaginations accomplish what every remix project ideally aspires to: present the songs in exciting new contexts while reaffirming one’s appreciation for the original material. Listen, relax, and stay a while longer.

Last spotted on Eskimo back in the distant days of 2019, London based duo Horixon return with The Beekeeper, a collaboration with Belgian singer and one half of Hydrogen Sea, Birsen. An understated leftfield pop gem, The Beekeeper's skeletal, dub inflected, rhythms, melancholic piano melody and subtly tropical percussion provide the perfect, balmy, backing for Birsen's gentle, lilting vocals. The perfect soundtrack to lying in a hammock and watching the world around you drift by. 

Providing a counterpoint to the more organic, and warm, sounding original Norwegian duo Atella's remix keeps The Beekeeper's slow tempo and dub vibe but brings both their banks of synthesisers and a Nordic touch to the party. Whilst the original whispered of a still, warm summer's day the track's glacial tempo is now matched by icey cool synth arpeggios that glisten and sparkle like frost catching the morning light, whilst Birsen's voice takes on an even more fragile and beautiful timbre.
