Mateo Lopez is a Los Angeles native that first appeared on the Louisiana college scene in 2006 with a well-received cover of John Legend’s “Ordinary People,” to whom he later became compared thanks to comedian/emcee Robert Powell, III. Mateo has managed to remain relevant and respected force among his peers and fan base thanks to a versatile repertoire that transcends any single genre. His original music is playfully confessional and autobiographical, painting a picture for the listener to interpret. His style pulls from his wide array of performance experience with hints jazz fusion, blues, folk, R&B, and Broadway music, featuring his classically trained Baritone vocals that demonstrate a four octave range (A2-G6).

His stage presence began in 2006 with a role in “The Game of Love,” as the young poet Flieder. In this role he helped introduce the Louisiana Lyric Opera, the only professional summer stock company of its kind within an arch from Houston, TX through Oklahoma City, OK; Wichita, KS; Kansas City, MO; St. Louis, MO; Louisville, KY; to Atlanta, GA and the only one in the state of Louisiana. Lopez was last on stage in 2011 where he rendered a cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and featured hip hop artist Trey Parker.

Lopez has released 3 independent mixtapes and has managed to maintain a comfortable spot as one of the top 20 artists on the local charts on communities such as ReverbNation, while under the on and off tutelage of renowned Basso Profundo, Louis Nabors. Mateo’s last official release was 2010’s Mixed Signals and featured a more mature writing style and also introduced a more experimental vocal styling, which he avoided on previous recordings. Mateo’s musical path has most recently led him back to his organic roots, stripping away the synthesized sounds of his previous recordings and reintroducing him as a rawer, more matured talent. His current works hold strong influence from the likes of Muddy Waters, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, and Amy Winehouse. Lopez maintains a Wordpress Blog, and keeps up with his fan base through his official Facebook fan page and twitter. He holds a degree in History from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and has plans to obtain a Master’s in Business Administration.
