Après avoir mené avec succès plusieurs actions militaires françaises, elle a été capturée, remise aux autorités anglaises, condamnée comme hérétique et brûlée sur le bûcher en 1431. Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, sa condamnation a été formellement annulée. Près de 500 ans après sa mort, elle a été canonisée comme sainte par l'Église catholique romaine.
