I see that the creation process is realized through a dialectic relation between one's encounters and labour. After the decision to work on electronic music "in a serious way", following a process of intense work, today I am happy to share with you my first track. To be honest, this process has been much harder than I thought.

I could not be more grateful to Şafak( @oceanvsorientalis), to whom I have been giving a headache for years, with any question, issue I had about music, who gave me his support in every way possible. As he says, it is important to know what you want, because finding the receiver of what we do is linked to the knowledge of what we do.

On the other hand, I want to thank to Utku ( @utkutml) who helped me develop myself in production and mixing through his courses, to Turker (@itsturker) who solved all my issues regarding Ableton.

Thanks to my flatmate Reşo, who were exposed to listen to anything I did, to Serko who have always been the one that motivated me, to @qoser and Bulent who have been my back and supporter since the first day. 

And of course to William & @sora-paris (Horde) and Alex (@rozospace)(Ritual), who always supported me in Parisian part of my life.

I took the traditional song, Didou Nana by the amazing Kazim Koyuncu (1972 – 2005). The language of the song, Lazuri, is from the north eastern part of the Turkish Black Sea, close to Georgia. 
This is not an official remix, all the respect goes out to Kazim Koyuncu. May he rest in peace.

Songs for My Grandmother Remixes is the latest in the ever-evolving musical adventures of Tuğçe Kurtiş. Produced in partnership with Tuğçe’s long time collaborator Santi (Santiago Ferreira), who is known for his novel arrangements of Anatolian and Balkan music and  rewriting Paraguayan folklore. With this new compilation, Tuğçe Kurtiş presents another take on her grandmother’s favorite songs through contributions by a wonderfully eclectic team of producers. The remix album begins with Acid Pauli’s enticingly atmospheric rendition of “Yıldızların Altında” (Underneath the Stars), followed by San Miguel’s characteristically heartful and soothing version. Álvaro Suárez then takes Yıldızların Altında decisively deep into the dancefloor with his sensual and hypnotic style, while Anatolian Sessions brings it home with the luring sounds of flute and kaval. The next track is the only remix of “Gözleri Aşka Gülen” (The One Whose Eyes Smile at Love) on the album where Alizarina fully embraces the song’s joyful spirit and creates moments of magic through his sublime clarinet lines. Then comes Rodrigo Gallardo who skillfully transports the Turkish vintage “Sevdan Olmasa” (Without Your Love) into the Andes through his folkloric flute and ritualistic vibe. Spy from Cairo presents yet another enchanting, idiosyncratically “Arabadub” rendition of this track with his delightful strings, deep baseline, and lush percussion. The album ends lavishly with an irresistibly groovy version of “Sevdan Olmasa” by Drumspyder who intricately weaves together hand percussion and electronic sounds into the finely sculpted grooves of the original track.

Tuğçe Kurtiş  - Yıldızların Altında (Acid Pauli Remix)

Kara Toprak is islandman’s first single off the forthcoming third album. The song recasts the celebrated Asik Veysel folk composition (of the same title) in electronic molds. The sepia melancholy of hallowed notes is rendered through islanmand’s plush surrealism. The gentle curls of Veysel’s baglama is transcribed by way of Jacob Gurevitsch’ sublime guitarwork onto deep bass waves. Kenneth Bager’s Radio Edit also features strings by Reinhard Vanbergen.
Asik Veysel (1894-1973) is one of the greatest figures of 20th century Turkish music and folk poetry. A life-long guardian of the ashik tradition, he played the bağlama to perfection and sang songs, forged by his perspective of the world as a blind man, that reverberated deep within the heart of Anatolian culture and identity. 
‘Kara Toprak’ (‘Black Earth’ in English) is one of those. It’s about the beauty of life and the absurdity of what we chose to do with it. It’s a paean to mother earth, the one giving life to us all. This rendition is done with the thought of keeping the memory of Asik Veysel and the ashik tradition alive. We hope you enjoy.
