PAINT YOUR PICTURE (1982)

Slow Motion Summer is a snapshot of midsummer, when the tempo of life seems to slow down like an oil painting.  Before the rush of Autumn, the mood is languid and lush, which is exactly what these musical sketches are about. 

"Samba So Slow" is pretty much what the title says...a very slow Samba featuring nylon guitar and flute in a simple, distilled arrangement. Like a Samba might sound in Spain... 

The dreamy sound of vibes, upright bass, and soft brushes together conjures the image of lazy swans with little to do but a "Swan Dance". If only we could all dance this slow!

"Not Yet, Autumn" is a haunting plea for Summer to last a little longer. The melody, stated by the baritone horn, is a tip of the hat to the late Chuck Mangione. Although composed by yours truly very recently,  this one sounds like it came from another time, before smooth jazz was even a term.

The Mr. Confuse Remix of ‘Insaitable’ changed the more funky original into an acoustic Cuban Latin version.

So as it turns out, my original version of this song was too long for my Songwriting class project, so I sped it up and re-did the vocal track. The original recording came out slower than I'd envisioned, and I really think this tempo does the song more justice.

Since 2008 Roger's world music project, The Air Department, has dipped deeply into the music of the Middle East, India, and Brazil, mixing it with Ambient, Electronica, Downtempo, and more. With five releases to date available worldwide, this music is a veritable sonic stew for adventurous listeners in today's evolving musical universe. 

Roger's latest releases, "With You in a Moment" (2016) and "Blueish Grey" (2014) mark the first recordings in several years which he has released under his own name. And while he has played most of the instruments on his more recent recordings, these outings are something of a tour de force of his talents, as he is heard here on all instruments exclusively on both new recordings.
