The Revolution's Endgame

The revolution does not stop on the big day. That is only just beginning. And it needs a whole lot of designing.

Chapter 29 of "Designing the Revolution" explores the phase after a revolution when the real challenges begin, focusing on winning the peace rather than just the war.

It delves into external and internal pressures that can threaten a revolution, citing examples like Chile in 1974 to illustrate these dynamics.

Isolation is identified as a critical issue post-revolution, leading to two historical responses: violence and collapse into authoritarian structures.

The strategy proposed involves a nonviolent approach that increases complexity instead of collapsing it, utilizing methods like Citizens' Assemblies to make informed decisions and engage the population.

The concept of progressive nationalism, involving a left-wing populist movement embracing national meaning systems, and the importance of dialogue with opponents are key elements discussed for a successful post-revolutionary phase.
