Roll the Dice are back with a new full length album, ‘Born to Ruin’. The Swedish duo, which consists of Malcolm Pardon and Peder Mannerfelt, are established musicians in their own right. Pardon’s background producing scores for film and television is reflected in Roll The Dice’s cinematic aesthetic. While Mannerfelt’s acclaimed third solo album ‘Controlling Body’ landed in 2016, he counts the likes of Fever Ray among his producer credits.

In 2013 the pair contributed to the Blanck Mass-curated score for the Belgian horror movie ‘The Strange Colour of Your Body’s Tears’, while last year they composed part of the score and end credit theme for the SKY / Warp Films-produced drama series ‘The Last Panthers’. The duo have performed live at Sonar, Unsound, Primavera, ATP, Mutek, Norberg, Roskilde and Semibreve festivals as well as alongside an exclusive orchestral setting at Norrlands Opera.

Compared to the epic, sweeping compositions of the duo’s earlier records, Born To Ruin is stripped to the bone — a collection of concise, sharply evocative, jazz-infused music that’s more smoky basement than orchestral hall. Following the stately orchestral explorations of 2014’s Until Silence, the music here is lithe, hollow and furious, evoking a fractured world of economic and political instability.

Hydra is the second release in a series of collaborations called Assimilarity, this time a joint venture between the Dice and Maestro Allessandro Cortini.

" The whole idea came about following the successful collaboration between ourselves and Pär Grindvik on our track 'Buried' at the end of last year. What started out as curiosity about what could happen if outside input was brought into the process, turned into the feeling that this could be further explored by maybe turning it into a project and a series of releases. We have reached out to different artists that we like and that we feel we have a kindred spirit with in our approach to music, and we will put these tracks out individually throughout the year. To make sure that all these different tracks with different collaborations don't feel too apart from each other we have asked London based Brazilian artist Fabio Almeida (who was Malcolm's flatmate in London in the 90s) if we could use some of his work as artwork for the different covers. Fabio has picked out a set of images that have a common thread but also stand on their own, which is also the way Fabio sees his creative process. For us this kind of sums up the project in a nice way. Together but apart.

This time the Dice have teamed up with vocalist extraordinaire Glasser, which takes them into new sonic territories.
”We were really curious to explore the world of vocals, as this is an area we have never tapped into before.
However we did not want to just slap a vocal on top of a track, but rather try to dig deeper, to make the music and vocals sound as a whole. Let the vocals be part of the machine so to speak. We could not imagine anyone more adept than Glasser to guide us into this uncharted territory."
To complete the collaborative narrative, London based artist Fabio Almeida has provided yet another stunning piece of art for the cover, this time named
Click Clack.

Premiere : Roll The Dice & Sophia Loizou - Head Drop [The New Black]

when i started the mix with a sketch i was working on the last days i noticed a passage where a sound of a piano key beeing released sounded a bit like a voice. this sound reminded me of something. almost like i could here a voice speaking. i found this small piece by gill scott-heron, whose voice-sound is just so iconic it sticks with you, once you have heard it the first time. here he is reciting 'the revolution will not be televised...'. so eventhough i wouldn't have wanted to make a topical reflection on what happened and happens in america these days, the memory of his voice must have come to me through some sort of collective unconsciousness and i couldn't else but remember my first ever album my brother released on his lable tokyo trauma back in 2005 - the title was <<die wiederholung der geschichte der amerikanische heimatlosigkeit>> (the repetition of the history of the american homelessness)...
so on one hand the mix has this tension or struggle between immediacy, actuality and memory, america and europe if you want, on the other hand i just thought of a monday night walk in the city and mixed a bunch of archival sketches with some tracks i came to like. i hope you enjoy.

Patrick Marsman, AKA Marsman is a very busy man. Back in 2013 the label Pinkman was first given form with Drvg Cvltvre’s Offender Status ‎E.P. over the following years Pinkman has gone on to release music from a wealth of talented artists including Antenna, DJ Overdose, Identified Patient, Alessandro Adriani, Xosar, Black Merlin and our very own Ernestas Sadau, among many others. Pinkman has since been complimented with the materialisation of sub-label Charlois and the tougher edged white label series Pinkman Broken Dreams. Marsman has also been responsible for instigating and realising Rotterdam’s very own digital radio station, Operator along with Osman Bas, Ofra Beenen, Jeff van Hoek and Jorn de Vries in 2017, with Operator now sitting in the swirling, luminescent kernel of Rotterdam's’ cultural firma-ment. A firm Tsunami favourite, Marsman is the epitome of DT style: creative, vigorous, fiercely idiosyn-cratic and relentlessly DIY. We’re ecstatic therefore to be able to present our latest podcast and interview courtesy of this exponent of quality underground electronic music and hard working architect of the con-temporary Rotterdam underground.
