Pel meu 18è aniversari, el meu germà em va regalar un disc de John Coltrane: Crescent. Ningú de tots dos sabíem qui era, ni molt bé perquè havia escollit aquell disc per a mi, però vaig quedar fascinat per aquell so dolç i aspre a la vegada. Els estranys i captivadors gemecs que sortien del saxo tenor, especialment del tema Wise One, farien que em decidís a provar de tocar aquell instrument, cosa que no he deixat de fer des d’aleshores.

Durant els d’anys de professió com a saxofonista, de tocar diferents estils musicals com jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, música de ball, reggae, improvisació lliure; de diferents formacions com duets, trios de jazz, bigbands, orquestres, teatre de carrer, infantils, musicals, esdeveniments de tot tipus, col·lectius d’improvisació i performances; així com experiència com a solista i músic de sessió; gires locals i europees; docència, no he deixat mai de cercar l’expressió profunda i punyent del so que em va inspirar aquella primera audició de Wise One.

Mothergroove is a Barcelona based collaboration fronted by Italian singer, songwriter, and producer Gianni Sciannamé, together with the Catalans Abel Boquera on keys and Roger Serrahima on drums and Brazilian bass player Daniel Doctors.

We met in 2006 during the recording of some Gianni's original songs, where he invited several musicians to participate in a new project called "Mothergroove." 
 Two of these songs, "In 2My Mind" and "Don't waste your time," were published by UK's independent label "Soul Unsigned" on two EP's in 2008.

We've been playing for several years on the local scene and appearing on several Festivals in Spain where we opened for US3 at Black Music Festival or THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS at Apolo. 

From the beginning, we had an exceptional feeling towards funk, soul, or R&B music. We decided to record some original tracks on our rehearsal room with some equipment but with the purpose of a nasty and natural sound.

"Sessions" (Believe digital 2008) was our first album release, the product of several recording sessions featuring some of the bests on the Barcelona scene like David Carrasco on sax and Josep Tutusaus on trombone. 

The single "Constellation Man" put us on the map of rising funk bands in Spain and was included on the "Groovadelia2" compilation on Vampi Soul label and gets the attention of radio broadcaster Craig Charles. The latter played it on his famous BBC's Funk&Soul Show.  

We continued recording new material for more than two years in rehearsals and improvisation sessions at our rehearsal room between 2009 and 2011. 

This material was about to end on a hard drive because of a band split. 

As usual, bands have troubles, and we had been no exception. Our bass player Daniel left Barcelona in February of 2010 to Sao Paulo because of his " legal situation" on the country. 

That left us with lots of unfinished material. Without bass, the band wasn't the same. We were unfortunate, tired, and we couldn't find any real substitute. So we split the group badly and sadly.

But we've been on "stand by" for several months where we almost loosed all of the recorded material because of an accidental hard disk erase. 

We decided to leave behind all the troubles we had in the past and finish some tracks we could recover from old mix bounces, we've been recording again missing vocal tracks, keys or guitar parts and in some cases we were lucky. We founded the hole mix bounced on our computers. :)

Finding Soundcloud was our motivation to finish all this work, and we like to make it accessible to the people. 

We only ask you to put a price you think it deserves, so will be worth to keep going and finish the rest of it.

NOTE: "Do it!" was recorded on El Patio Studios in BCN with a Tascam 4 track analog tape recorder, everything else you can find here is 100% homemade.
