This one (maybe) benefits from some explanation.  My partner and I were watching Jeopardy on basic cable that was split waaay too many times.  Every time a contestant would buzz in the audio channel would collapse and blurt out the "Ba-Dooo" sound that is heard throughout this track.  The rhythm track and the rest of the melody were all cut and pitch-shifted from the recording of the phenomenon, the classic jeopardy timeout sound and sweet, sweet Alex Trebek.

The Great Denial

In honour of Ornette Coleman's passing, an old beat featuring a Jimmy Garrison bass solo from "Enfant" off of "Ornette on Tenor".  With Ornette at the helm grooves like these would come out of nowhere and disappear as mysteriously. 

At the time the only record player I had was literally a mickey mouse record player so this sample was recorded from the little 3 inch speaker into a dictaphone lending some pre-digitized analog distortion.

RIP Ornette Coleman — you broke my brain numerous times and I'm so thankful for it.

Garrison's On The Lam

Unwieldy

One of the first songs I ever made circa 2004. After I got my first job in Toronto I went nuts looking at organs and keyboards on Ebay. My first major purchase was a gorgeous vintage analog synth, the Eminent Solina F225. It was a beast!

I was in love forever. Sadly it was too big to make my next move and I had to leave it behind. 

This song is using the jazz voice which had the sickest percussive attack, vibrato, analog reverb and a killer rhythm section. I'm still super happy with it.

In a lot of ways this song outlines how I write music even today. I'm always obsessed with tweaking phrasing and this song runs through the same melody with a handful of different swings and phrasings.
