Once I heard that my maternal grandfather was of Japanese ancestry, information that baffled me and that I'm not sure I can corroborate. Maybe I should travel to Japan to find out. I've always wanted to go there, see the cities, travel by train, eat like a salaryman; so much to do.

My earliest musical memories are of a small home on Williams Street, where my family moved when I was three. After dinner, my father would play hymns on his Conn organ, and I would sing along. That simple, shared ritual was my first introduction to music.

Our time at the organ came to an end a couple of years later when we moved, and my father's schedule became busier with teaching, pastoring, and graduate studies. I soon moved on to singing along to albums of musicals, and eventually, my mother became my first piano teacher. But I'll always remember that it was my father who first gave me a love for music. This piece is in his memory of him.

I love writing original music. I can't always predict how a song will turn out but I write what I hear and simply hope it pleases ears.
