this is not my cataclysmic nye DJ mix, it is a tribute to the set i was supposed to perform + the space it was to celebrate.  starts with deep dubstep, breaks + 2 step garage, then moves into drum n bass + jungle.

The first Patterns of Perception mix of 2023 comes from a luminous presence and dear friend of our collective - label head, mix series curator, promoter and esteemed selector Aaron J (@arn_j).

Over the years, a combination of passion, openness and tireless energy has seen Aaron become a trusted voice for experimental, boundary-pushing electronic music across both the US and the wider scene. 

Founded over eight years ago, Aaron’s much-loved platform @sure_thing is the embodiment of his forward-thinking curation and clarity of vision. Now based in Brooklyn, Sure Thing started as a series of parties in San Francisco before growing outward, later blossoming into a renowned mix series and record label. 

As a DJ, Aaron’s level of empathy and attention-to-detail are unmistakeable, allowing him to deeply connect with the dance floor no matter the context - layering, building and driving emotions ever onwards.

Aaron J's Patterns of Perception 106 is both radiant and personal - an idyllic snapshot of the perfect dance floor, glowing with wide-eyed energy. Pensive darkness simmers into hedonistic psychedelia. Intensity turns reflective. Endless rhythms vibrate and flare into nurturing light.

#100-MOON PATROL

from my all night at High+Tight this is the wind down, conclusion to an epic set. in this segment, long time followers of my sets will recognize my staple/go-to tracks often used throughout many mixes for collectives and in live gigs. being that this was my first ever dj set in the northwest and Seattle no less, i had to give 100% me so they know how I place my treasured classics. i went to a safe place to play genuinely from the heart after bearing and with holding sad news from all in attendance as i was grieving the loss of a close family member who had passed earlier on the day of the gig. my attitude was the show must go on. creating art was very therapeutic on this evening. there are some drops that could have been performed better but as Kate Bush once sang, Be Kind To My Mistakes. I ask for such forgiveness here given the state of mind i was in. also, the recording stopped so two tracks are missing. life is full of surprises <3

from my all night at High+Tight this is the first 2 hours and 14 minutes of my all night set. this was my first ever dj set in the northwest and Seattle. nerves were high yet i tried to make the mix tight! i went to a safe place to play genuinely from the heart after bearing and with holding sad news from all in attendance as i was grieving the loss of a close family member who had passed earlier on the day of the gig. my attitude was the show must go on. creating art was very therapeutic on this evening. there are some drops that could have been performed better but as Kate Bush once sang, Be Kind To My Mistakes <3

We're thrilled to have the legend Ron Like Hell guiding us through these emotional eddies. Truly the best of the best, Ron is a musical magician like no other, an unparalleled master of the dancefloor with seemingly boundless energy and boundary-free flow that reaches back decades and stretches forward to the bleeding edge of dance music. We've fallen in love with Ron's sonic sorcery during many truly transformative sets and shared dancefloor moments - all delivered with unparalleled deftness and gentleness - and also with Ron's generous, bubbling personality which extends warm attention and supportive mentorship with a unique graciousness and sincerity. Ron co-runs the legendary Wrecked party - currently in residence at Basement NY - and makes frequent appearances at some of the most esteemed halls and precious holes we couldn't possibly enumerate. In support is Bounce Boss Furtive (whose development as a DJ has in no small part been nudged by the effusive support of Ron, from pandemic-period invitations to The Lot Radio and an appearance at Wrecked's 12th anniversary celebration in spring 2023). This is Furtive's first return to the Bounce House booth in 2024, primed by a recent romping set at Nowadays and more ready than ever to deliver their finest on beloved home turf.
