Late Night Workshop 25 DJ MIX

Here is my 'Trunk of Funk' mix and interview that I was invited to do from the Funk & Soul national treasure and hardest working man in showbiz - Craig Charles for his Saturday Night Funk and Soul show on BBC6 Music.
It went out at the end of January 2022 and features a few of my favourite producers and friends in the music world including Mighty Mouse, Shaka Loves You and Young Pulse. My own track 'Jimmy's Groove' is also featured in the mix which is now available to download from Bandcamp.

A freestyle 3 hour mix session recorded Sunday afternoon. One take, no messing. 100 tracks on the disco & soul tip, with sprinkles of fuzzy post-punk, funk, boogie & psych vibes, and a few curveballs thrown in. A ton of vintage classics & some lesser-known bits, alongside recent tracks on a similar tip.

This was basically the crate I pulled together for the Say She She gig at Village Underground in East London, which I played at last week (Aug 31st 2023), and was very much the inspiration for this mix, so there's several tracks by them here, as well as current artists like Cleo Sol, Thee Marloes, Kit Sebastian, Witch, Thee Sacred Souls, Jalen Ngonda & Mad Yella, mixed with a bunch of legends & dancefloor fillers.

A selection of cute but tenacious earworms. Felt good playing this stuff in a big sweaty warehouse, so I had the urge to record a longer session of it all.

A main topic of this mix is the label Fort Knox Recordings from Washington DC, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary - of course with a first class label compilation, which should not leave any armpit dry: "Another Decade of Fort Knox Recordings" contains 20 highlights from the labels second decade from 2013-2023.
For me, a welcome occasion to dish up a mini-mix from this compilation + the terrific remix by The Allergies, of the Fort Knox Five anthem "Insight", which has been released as a single (all included in the mix from 1:07:15 - 1:29:10 playtime; 9 Fort Knox bombs packed in 22 minutes.).

Hard to believe it, but Funkier Radio is turning one year old! Really doesn't seem like that long ago that I was nervously recording episode 1, and the formula hasn't really changed over the last year - it's still me playing some of the funkiest cuts from my personal music collection in hour 1, then handing over to a fellow DJ to take you through hour 2. 

All of the guest mixes on the show are very special to me, but I've pulled out all the stops for this first birthday edition, and have a real treat for you. I'm massively excited to bring you an exclusive hour of music from the incredible All Good Funk Alliance. I've been into these guys for as long as I can remember, and I think their mixes really embody a lot of my vision for Funkier Radio - eclectic selections of deep cuts from across the spectrum of funk, disco, hip hop, latin, jazz world music and the rest, all threaded together with the common strand of funkiness... and the way they assemble these wonderful tunes in their mixes blows me away every time.
