Astroloop’s debut solo outing opens up with the title track ‘Right Before’, a moody and muscular take on deep house that gradually builds tension and suspense throughout its six-minute duration. The track is followed up soon after with a stellar remix from two gifted Mexican producers, Theus Mago & Moisees, who bring the distorted vocal parts to the foreground while decorating the track with additional percussion, effects and melodies. Initially described as “superlative 25th century electronic exotica” by Cowboy Rhythmbox themselves, the fourth EP from Phantasy’s in-house trouble and hitmakers received continued support from top jocks including Dixon, Jackmaster and Marcel Dettmann. Now, it’s dynamic lead track is rejigged, expanded upon and shot through with analogue energy by two equally inventive producer pairings.

Fellow outsiders on the inside of the house of house, Israel’s finest Red Axes take the first turn, coaxing the cosmos out of the original and allowing the bewildering vocal samples to lead the way through waves of more than pleasurable cosmic tension. Soon, with the timing just right, feet to pedals and strobe to hand, the pair unleash a series of distorted guitar licks that blow dust off the stacks, even throwing in a sharp blast of their trademark surrealist vocals for extra freaky FX.

On the flip, Marvin & Guy zone out and hone in on the original’s EBM-indebted elements to contribute a trippy, wave-riding electro rework that oscillates irresistibly. Teasing listeners with a playful, almost naive synth line, the mood shimmers instead with uncompromising acid, as the pair ultimately push the modulars into strange and hypnotic territories to get lost in.

Phantasy Sound regulars Cowboy Rhythmbox return to the imprint this November with three esoteric cuts entitled ‘Terminal Madness’.

After solid releases throughout 2018 from Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture, James Welsh and Red Axes to name a few, Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound return with a triple pronged battle weapon from Cowboy Rhythmbox that takes in inspiration from a wealth of disparate elements; the brutal drum machine swagger of early Chicago house, the murky world of 1980's video arcades, the bleeps of Sheffield, arcane home computing documentaries recorded to VHS, public access TV.

‘Terminal Madness’ is a quirky track about the paranoia surrounding artificial intelligence, inspired by early Dance Mania releases and broken pocket calculators amongst other things. ‘Hands Inside The Car’ then deploys a wonderful eccentric atmosphere through a deadpan vocal hook that wraps itself around a killer combination of sub bass, freestyle beats and deranged reversed elements.

‘Vodonik’ finishes with a stark, glacial rave beast, very much a reaction against Cowboy Rhythmbox's usual maximal approach. This is stripped-down-to-the-bone body music that will work in the most cavernous of rave palaces or the most intimate seedy basement club.

The intriguing tale of French duo Kimshies continues... Their sole release from 2004 re-upped into the ether by Solomun in 2018, it triggered a return to the studio after almost 15 years. Making up for lost time, they’ve already dropped two exceptional EP's on Nein. Now comes their Duro debut... And it’s a perfect dark disco match.

Even the title says as much ‘Fucked Up Mama’: a scuzzy, frazzled jam rich in oiled distortion and lighting strike synths and a rising case of venomous acid mid-way, there’s a grit in the groove that’s going to take more than a few lockdown handwashes to feel clean from. It’s coupled by a series of equally forthright remixes: fresh from completing his debut album for Life & Death, Disco Halal alumni Autarkic strips your mama down to her kickdrum undies and redresses her in a dynamic laser laced charmer.

He’s in good company... Nein brethren Cabaret Nocturne makes a welcome appearance with a creeping dark electro twist while La Dame Noir’s Arthur Johnson gets busy with two perspectives; one where the swing and organs provide funky refreshment and a bonus one which takes us right back into the gritty analog mama-fucking attitude of the original. Despite the challenges and weirdness of the year, boundary-blazing bandoleros Duro continue to shoot through 2020, all-pistols-blazing. Releases have fired from all corners but one of the strongest themes has been the ‘Muy Duro’ volumes. The Mexican label’s flagship V/A series, each EP digs deep into the dark disco psyche, celebrating the label’s widest sonic outposts and reference points with friends and shared spirits from across the world, old and new. Marking a year of the series, with tracks from Israel to Istanbul, ‘Muy Duro Volume 5’ is certainly no exception.

Veteran cosmic groover Tim Paris makes his long-awaited debut with the slouching funk and broken drum swagger of ‘Better Slightly Unchanged’ before two more collaborations join the party with their Duro debuts, all hailing from Israel; Middle Sky Boom and AckerMan whisk us through the stars on ‘Temp Goes High’ while Rina X Benji pay homage to mind alteration on the electroid bumps and asteroid grinds of ‘Koshmaro’.

Professional belly dancers and long-time friends of Duro Hanzo & Yaman follow with ‘Hokus Pokus’. A springy, playful slab of house music laced with pitched bells and a riser that teases and teases, there’s a late 90s/early 200s mischief to this that, like the label itself, just won’t quit. The final word comes from the label bossman Theus Mago and French brother-in-arms Id!r… And that word is techno. Deep bleeps and endless pulsations, ‘Soft Light’ is an epic moment of pure late night hedonism that sits somewhere between Bobby Peru and Plastikman. Blazing boundaries and still fully loaded, the Duro bandoleros keep on shooting.

The Compilation starts off with Alberto de Angeli aka AHEADACHEADAY. A dark slow motion synth laden track with Burundi beat undertones. 
Tel Aviv’s Eliezer collaborated w/ Zillas on Acid on Anna Bella. The vocals are by Isadora. The song is trippy, hypnotic and percussive.
M Love’s Price is his 3rd release on Relish. New World was featured on REPIX. New Wave and Krautrock infused techno for the momentarily absent dancefloors.This time a bit harder and less melodic. Devoleb is a new Headman track. The original idea was to rework an old track, but while working on it something new came out. The track is an example of Post Punk Disco, 808 drummachines and Basslines that reminds one of Motorik retro futurist funk. Crimson is by Eliezer and Dangur with again vocals from Isadora. This version is a bit more uptempo, again with a tribal nearly ethnic feel with guitars and percussion that slide in and out dubbing everything. Mufti feat Vongold contributed already on REPXI. False Guru has a similar  Mexican underground vibe, dark arpeggio synths, driving drums and  mystic vocals by Vongold.
Headman’s Be Loved original version was released in 2011. First remixed by Daniel Avery on the homonymous single. Modular Project remixed the version again and turned it into a high energy dark Giorgio Moroder-esque interpretation keeping loads of sounds and the poppy vocals from the original. Franz & Shape who have been part of Relish since the early days contributed N.u.m.b.. The vocals are by Matt Southall from the UK band Officers. The remix is by Croatian electronica producer Petar Dundov. He added vocoders and gave a nice retro-italo feel to the original version.
