For this 3rd episode of Room 4 Resistance, we're absolutely stocked to welcome Josey Rebelle on the show !

With appearances at clubs & festivals across Europe and Asia, a debut US tour, and an abundance of accolades for both club sets and radio shows, 2017 was a standout year for London-born DJ Josey Rebelle. But to be one of the most respected DJs in the game you’ve got to earn it, and Josey has shown year on year that she’s a force to be reckoned with, proving herself as an artist that can seamlessly ride countless genres with a raw and brutal underground energy while keeping the audience in the palm of her hand, all with one overwhelming priority: heavyweight selection first and foremost.

Josey was introduced to the decks at an early age, taught to DJ by her brother on his house, techno and hardcore collection when she was 13, but it was some years later that she graduated from bedroom DJ to the club, eventually earning her stripes as a resident at legendary London basement club Plastic People. She has since graced the line-ups of clubs such as Panorama Bar, Fabric, Concrete, Good Room, De School and Nitsa, and 2018 sees her settle down for an exclusive London residency at The Pickle Factory. Josey has also been booked for festivals including Dimensions, Primavera Sound, Bestival and Afropunk NYC, has recorded highly-acclaimed mixes for Resident Advisor, The Fader, Discwoman, Fact Magazine and BBC Radio 1, and also appeared on the very first official Boiler Room broadcast in 2010.

While her club sets centre around house, techno and breakbeat sounds old and new, Josey demonstrates the full spectrum of her musical knowledge on her three-hour Sunday morning Rinse FM shows, described by Time Out as ‘the best way to spend a Sunday'. 2018 marks Josey’s seventh year on the station.

Room 4 Resistance 03 W/ Josey Rebelle - Rádio Quântica (29.03.2018)

San Francisco’s experimental / dance music scene has many freaks. The Creatrix is one of them. She packs out sex parties at the local leather bar and plays to her friends on a Monday night. She has DJ’d NY, Shanghai, Japan and remains committed to the underground. 

The Creatrix is 1/3 of T.V.O.D. with Nihar Bhatt and Jason Polastri, their new passion project to bring the world’s techno mutants to the bay area. She is equal parts selectress, producer, sound artist, community activist and fan girl on the dance floor. 

The Creatrix is the guest of Room 4 Resistance for their 19th episode on Radio Quântica with an excerpt of an opening set for Via App on March 16th at Counterpulse in San Francisco.

Luz hosts and opens the first hour (which sadly ended up being 30 min due to technical issues) with a short excerpt of their set at Bristol's Dialogue 2nd anniversary party in May 2019.

Piano Rain (Alexandrea Maria Archuleta) is a sound artist, producer, DJ and quilter born of Colorado soil, currently flourishing under the San Francisco Sun and Moon. With a background in technical theater she weaves together sounds and textures, as a healing medium, into a garden of memory, connecting the past through the present and into the future.  Her soundworks, like her quilt works, hold the intention of transmitting the nurturing warmth of human touch and memory activation, delivering messages beyond space to withstand the test of time.

As half of Cleveland party Heaven is in You, Miah Benton (adab) puts heavy emphasis on translating the unifying elements between us through djing. Characterized often by their palette of sounds, they made a niche for themselves in Cleveland, Ohio spinning a variety of sounds and venues alike. Having started djing dance music, primarily, as a result of finding Cleveland's queer techno party In Training and being a non binary black youth raised across a few states in the Rustbelt, adab seeks to unabashedly present refreshing perspectives and dialogues for both themself and others.

Club Music artist luz (they/them) is a neuroqueer DJ, promoter, curator, radio-host, and community organizer. Co-founder of Berlin-based queer collective Room 4 Resistance, they’re also a member of Ecology of Care and Unsound Festival’s Mutual Respect team.

Their practice of nightlife is anchored in queer feminist spaces, grassroots organizing, community care, harm reduction and experimentation. As a DJ, their ever-evolving sound is at the crossroads of different Club Music styles and influences: UK, bass, breaks, experimental, polyrhythmic, leftfield, D’n’B, House, deep techno, Detroit electro, and more. They enjoy building narratives across genres and eras that resonate with their present moods and feelings. Their favorite dancefloors are intimate, healing, sweaty, filled with queer joy, cute weirdos and misfits from all paths of life.   

Over the years, luz has performed at countless international venues and festivals, highlights include Panorama Bar and Tresor (Berlin), De School (Amsterdam), Et Andet Sted (Copenhagen), Hot Mass (Pittsburgh), Movement’s Industry Brunch (Detroit), La Station Gare Des Mines (Paris), C12 (Brussels), 5 Miles (London) as well as Festivals such as Nyege Nyege (Jinja, Uganda), Unsound (Krakow), CTM (Berlin) and Horst (Brussels).
